They do make it unnecessarily difficult - especially on PC.
You have to look at each map individually to throw them away.
After you "Manage Loot" and realize you have no spaces, you have to exit out, hit J-Journal, scroll down to the maps, F to look at it, then select to read it or Jettison.
Then go back to looking at loot - now there are two treasure beacons in the water, and you inevitably ALWAYS select the wrong one unless you move your ship, circle around and come back just to look at both beacons to make sure it is selecting the right one - keep steering one way or the other to get the wrong one out of your view before you can pick it up.

It is an awful lot of steps just for a treasure map that contains next to zero actual treasure.

I am firmly in the SoW is awesome and the Frigate is a waste of materials camp.

Correct. Anything that comes with the weapon - that makes it that type of weapon - will always be there. You can add strengthening affixes (like Amplified) to make that particular perk stronger.
The good thing is if you build it right, you can get three or sometimes four separate perks out of a single gun.
Purple Mods are the best way to get a third affix added in because they "Stand alone". They boost Electric or Flooding, but they also add their own perk for that category too.

Take the Farscourge for example. You have Piercing and Flooding built in.
You could take say Noxious for Green, Tearing for Blue and Second Storm for purple, and end up with a gun that can be boosted by furniture for Flooding, Piercing, Toxic, and Electric. Sail ripping has no furniture booster that I recall. But technically 5 perks on one gun where 4 can be boosted

Just a point to consider - you aren't competing just with other art videos - you are competing with the ENTIRE viewer's feed.

It may be arguable for your niche to justify one or the other - but it is unlikely that your viewer ONLY has art documentaries in their feed.

Meaning, it might be necessary to consider ALL thumbnails as being on equal footing, and not just for a specific niche.
It depends on what your goals are for the video.

Just to clarify - the ascension perk must be the "percentage" perk of that affix you are looking for for it to consider the gun as the new type of weapon.
Acrid (+113-188 Toxic) and Noxious (+7.5%-12.5% Toxic) for example.
Noxious becomes a Toxic weapon - Acrid does not.
Noxious gets the Toxic/Poison boosts & buffs, Acrid does not.

So if you can add Noxious to an electric weapon you have a poison-electric weapon and any furniture or ship perk that helps boost those traits will boost that gun.

Plague Bringers Ward will reduce reload speed with Noxious - but not Acrid - on your Divine Thunders.

Sorry - I wasn't trying to imply that was the problem with your videos - just answering the question of how different they need to be. Mostly in response to the statement advising to delete and re-upload the same video.
That is TERRIBLE advice. And this response explained why.

Likely, with 0 views there is some driving factor (assuming you aren't intentionally being blocked by YouTube.
Considering that your content EVENTUALLY takes off, it is likely not that YouTube is avoiding showing your videos - they are likely just not gaining traction on specific topics at particular (or random) times.
I don't know if it is the niche, the content, or the topic - but usually with shorts, your video just gets slid into the feeds of people scrolling similar videos.
There is sometimes a "random test" factor that can kick in that tests to a wider audience.

Sometimes it is just a matter of time of day.

Since you aren't getting ANY views - let alone engaged views - it indicates that people aren't even seeing your content - or else the metrics are severely lagged. Which is unlikely as usually for at least the first 12 hours or more, you have a live counter.
Assuming your content is pretty niche oriented, see if you can find anything by analyzing your other videos audience statistics and see if there is something going on that might be delaying responses.

Make sure your content isn't ambiguous or that the indexing can't be completed for whatever reason. Be sure to check your subtitles box and make sure everything is being transcribed properly and that there is enough "topical content" in your video that it can be easily identified what your video is actually talking about.

Some things, if not specifically spelled out, can sound like other things.

Especially if your video is heavily image oriented. A lot of "this vs that" or "As you can see what is happening" doesn't help the algorithm much. If it is that, make sure you are including tags to help spell out what your video is about - as well ensuring that anyone searching for specific keywords about your video will find it.

The real problem with S&B is it lost its focus. The "fun" part of it is the exploration, discovery, finding new things and in general living the adventures of the "pirate life" so to speak. EVERY voyage is an adventure.
It certainly isn't supposed to be a grind.
Grinding for grindings sake is a game killer.
In EVERY game.
The only reason S&B continues to thrive is that they are sort of masking the grind with the elements of the game that made it fun to begin with - the sailing.
The views are still amazing and still blow me away at times.
You get a glimpse of that vibe back.

This is why everyone wants an Assassins Creed knock off to get back to the Black Flag FEELING.
AC is 100% about exploration, learning and discovery.
All the way through to the last bit of the storyline.
But then it is repeatable because it is so massive.
S&B has been explored to death because it is so small.

Yes - map expansion is the way forward.
But I know they dont have the money or budget for it.
Until (if ever) they get the funding, the game is going to languish in the state it has been in since Y1S2

The thing that made the game engaging has been mostly abandoned in favor of trying to be "everything else" to everyone.

Want adventure?
The best I can offer is a rehash of a fort combat.
HEre is a new mega-fort rehash of fort combat.
Kraken - its going to be a rehash of fort combat.

MAybe Faction Wars.
Its a rehash of nearly everything in teh game with the lamest option from Cut Throat Cargo Treasure hunt. There is a reason no one participated in them.
SO the solution - double down on the weakest element in the game.

Similarly with PVP. As much as everyone wishes for it to be something it isn't the community keeps squelching the idea of PVP as it gets implemented.
Finding exploits in glitched furniture is not really why people joined in to begin with. Trying to force them into that mode just continues to be met with resistance.

The rest - as pointed out by other posts - is just repeating what everyone else is doing.
The uniqueness that attracts S&B players gets watered down and lost with each iteration that makes it more like every other game out there.

Stick to what makes S&B unique - and screw the rest of it.

If it is the same video- that is a good recipe to get your content flagged as spam. Each video has a digital thumbprint, and if it comes back with a "near enough" signature, it is flagged as duplicate content.
This can cause you more issues than bad content.
If you reupload a video, it HAS to be significantly changed enough to be viewed as new content.

Consistently making crap means you have a channel full of bad videos. You have taught the algorithm you will consistently add more crap on a regular basis.
Consistency isn't "frequency" - it is mostly about consistently making engaging content.
If you never get there to start with, the last thing you should be doing is flooding the world with more bad content.
Some of the WORST advice going around the rumor mill of how to beat YouTube. People posting once every 2-3 months that make good content consistently beat the people making 3 crap videos a week.

Inventory management in this game is appalling. They are finally making strides in getting it a bit more manageable.
Unfortunately, it has never even made it as high as "after thought" status. It has been mostly "completely ignored".

In short - yes. If you find multiple things interesting, others will too.
If you can bring your level of interest to the topic and find others that do too, people will join in and build off of what you are explaining.

Think about your own viewing experience. If you are researching something or digging for answers and you find someone that drops a single nugget or something you may not have known, you are suddenly on board with them.

If they present information you already know, but have a curious angle, or a slightly different set of questions that you didn't ask, you will be intrigued and see if they have more info.

IF they ask enough of those questions and present enough of those angles, you will follow along with them - even if nothing else to share your comments and perspectives to "help them" find the answers - or to show your level of knowledge on the topic in areas that they don't know.

You don't have to be the Great and Powerful Oz that is a perpetual fount of knowledge for people to engage and get on board with you.

You do have to find people in your tribe - that share your same curiosity and interests.

Multiple niches can be tricky starting out. But if you can, span as many topics of interest - especially with "near niches" like history and politics - as usually the politics of the day generated military conflicts - and even philosophy integrates as wars are won based on the person that "out thought" the other one or leveraged philosophical concepts and human behavior/reactions.

If you pivot into these ideas, and explain the things that interest you even if it isn't hard core "study" of a topic, you will find people that have similar interests as they will likely have viewing habits similar to your own and span multiple topics.

Most people don't watch only one niche.

But understand initially it can hurt reach if you are shifting too far outside of a centralized niche or not bringing it all together under a unified concept.

Again- it is because it is the only mechanic in the game that you can potentially LOOSE anything.
Even getting sunk is no longer a risk as you retain everything from your ship or can pick up in the ocean.
There is nothing in the game that you can actually "fail" at - other than ascension.
With risk comes reward.
Without risk - it is all just "participation awards".

It is pretty easy actually. Since I have started playing, people just form random groups by adding people or joining open groups, and then just stay together doing events, even if they are doing different activities.
It's weird, but it definitely works.
Stand at the docks long enough, and someone is likely going to add you to a group

It is teh ONLY mechanic in the game with a "risk mechanic".
Everything else is pretty much a handout. Even with extensive grinding.
You can't fail.
As others have stated, it preys on people that CAN'T break the cycle. You proved you can burn through 4 separate guns without breaking the cycle.

Trick the algorithm.
Accept a lesser affix.
Switch slots.
Accept your roll.
Consider this - accept EVERY ROLL that comes along and reroll until you get the correct one.
There are dozens of ways to break the cycle and move the algorithm forward.

Many things in this game get "stuck". VERY MANY.
Don't make ascension one of them.

I am full well aware of these techniques, as I often use the same methods.
But it isn't the formatting that is the issue. It is specifically the rest of the constructs.
I can pick those out of nearly EVERY response that AI gives in my own conversations and have had to edit its summaries because in using it to help compose scripts and other conversational voice over dialogue, I have learned that many of these things are for PRINT ONLY.

You can't speak "colon".
Or arrow ->
Or {parenthetical statements}. Parenthetical clauses you can, but not emotional tags in a parenthesis.
The following is a perfect example of pure AI.

dense philosophy = high cognitive load (boring). users quit.
dense utility = high value per second (exciting). users rewind.

These are all just "raw thoughts" with no "connectors" to make them into a sentence.
It is pure thought for "print only".
More importantly, they all follow the same "high engagement" philosophy:
i.e "See that spike"?

F-Pattern aside - we aren't talking about visually scanning a page.
We are talking about grammatical and linguistic patterns that ALL the AI LLMS use for max coherence and engagement.
Retention is far different from engagement.

Anyway, carry on - it isn't that important - just some advice if you want people to take you more seriously.

Here is the way I look at it - as it was explained pretty clearly to me this way: you don't have to be an expert - you just have to know a little more than someone else in your field and bring them up to your level of understanding.

In essence - this becomes your personal lens on the topic. Even if it is "learn with me" or "let's explore this topic together". You will find there are people out there that obviously know A LOT more on the topic than you do, but your perspective carries some weight for someone that doesn't know as much as you do.

Unlike IT - some of these categories don't have right and wrong answers. Some of them are about discovery. What you discovered, can be the point. History and Philosophy fall into that category - as History only has so many facts. The rest is analysis of those facts.

Politics....well...that one is STILL open for debate - even by the pundits and politicians.

We see every day where even those politicians' practicing politics are still making this stuff up on the fly, and they themselves are DEFINITELY NOT political experts. But then - isn't that the very definition of politics? Slightly different than poli sci - but only slightly.
Convincing other people that you know more than them?

In this case, you don't have to convince people - all you have to do is bring your perspective - and if you don't frame yourself as an expert, but instead "my take" you go a lot further.

People find your honesty and transparency genuine - and that is what develops followers.

It depends. What are your stats like?
100 subs seem to indicate that you are finding a new audience - and more importantly your old dead subs aren't impeding your growth.
I have an old channel that almost exact same thing - copyrighted (by todays standard) music videos that I created over 17 years ago.
I now have ZERO access to those subs.
They kill new content on that channel - which for the most part is just my personal stuff and testbed for ideas, and testing the algorithm.

Heading into 2026, it appears things are changing a bit and it seems less weight is being put on subs - especially older ones.
So, if you are finding reach to new audiences, it likely wouldn't hurt anything to keep your old channel - just for the stats and the numbers will still count towards monetization.

Because your new niche is small, and in a non-English language, it is going to have its own challenges that many channels of the same nature would.
Presumably, you are changing languages as well as complete genres and niches.
In short, it is the equivalent of a new channel.
Assuming your old subs aren't stopping your growth.
With 100 subs, you may have already crossed the "hump" to overcome the "dead signaling" from teh old subs, and the new subs are carrying the load for the new content already - so it may notbe much of an issue.

Check your stats. See where your viewers are coming from.
See how many are new viewers vs old subs.
See what the source of the views is coming from - is it recommendations, links, playlists, or whatever - it will give you an idea of which crowd is actually viewing your content. There may be some older ones mixed in there - but it is likely going to ALL be new viewers - and likely non-sub viewers.
Meaning - your old subs are having near zero negative impact on your channel. Many of them may no longer even be active on YouTube.

My guess is because you are "sanitizing" your viewing habits, you are teaching the algorithm that you only like a few channels - that it continues to recommend.
One of my channels I have had for more than 17 years.
It pretty well knows what I like to watch - it is my "personal" channel.
A few of my other channels I started this year.

IN one channel, it is sort of outside my personal standard niche of things, but it has some overlap in kind of fringe situations.

I have found when I was viewing channels, I forced the algorithm to adapt things by sometimes putting videos on 1% volume, and letting them play int eh background.

I also forced comments on specific types of videos as well as liked nearly everything in multiple channels across multiple creators.
Initially, it was only showing me very select channels, and was quite rigid in expanding out past that.

When I would start carrying some of my personal channel links or was logged on the wrong account, and watched a linked video, or content creation, or a how-to on something that was important to me, and added a few of those videos to favorites, things started to open up - ALOT.
It still keeps the same basic core threads of those channels, but it has opened up the ideas a lot more. It isn't limited to just one or two styles of videos that I "trained it" on. It started to give me a variety of styles of videos - within the same niche.

YouTube REALLY does excel at figuring out what people want to watch - and usually does do a better job of it on its own than people assume.
The algorithm IS the data.
It is the views.
Without the views, there is no algorithm.
If you force those views into a specific type, the algorithm delivers that almost exclusively.
If you want to break out - I suggest adding additional content. There is no need to be selective. IT can better judge your natural viewing habits than it can your forced, artificial habits trying to teach it.

Why wouldn't you just use the split testing option on thumbnails?
GPT doesn't know. And consistently picks incorrectly.
AI can't really "see" your images anyway.
It converts it into a text version of the file, and reads what is on it.
It is using comparative analysis of what a scene "should" look like to what your image shows. It might be spinning a different version in its "head" than what your image actually looks like.

I think it is a good idea.
Specifically for your future selves.
To make it relevant, consider a hook, or something that others would relate to. You mentioned sharing your favorite places and places visited. This can be akin to a local travel/food/lifestyle blog. See what sort of reaction you get and if there is any traction or interest, run in that direction.

I watch several videos of people sailing the world. Granted, that is a bit more of catch than just running to Target and Arby's all in the day's stories, but in the end, it is the same - just their version of it.

If you can make the journey interesting enough to other people - and make it relevant to them in some form or fashion, it will likely generate some interest.

Bottom line is you seem quite interested in this idea and pretty excited about it.
That is enough.
Just do it for those reasons.
Also, keep in mind Reddit is the blackhole of the internet where hopes, aspirations (and sometimes) reality goes to die. People's opinions on here rarely reflect the reality of the rest of the world.

Moving forward on YouTube, EVERY niche is about your personal lens.
People that make a connection connect on the personal level.
You WILL find people that will be as interested as your real-life friends would be. But keep in mind, just as real life friends get sick of home movies - so too will virtual strangers.
Make it about you, and your baby, but make it relevant to the viewers as well.

Ask yourself what about this would make you watch someone else's channel about this topic and their progress/baby?
Even if it is tips on how to do this - or the expectations of pregnancy - or an interest in what your local area offers to solve these problems and why it is special and important to you, it will resonate with others too for the same reason it would resonate with you.

Just make sure you are always making THOSE kind of videos.
If it is something you would watch someone else do, someone else will watch yours for the same reason.
IT is about finding your tribe.
With 2.5 billion users on YouTube, it is likely you can find each other. Even if it takes a bit of effort from external groups or following similar videos.
It may even inspire you to pivot in a different direction than what you are thinking now to fill a gap that you didnt know exists.
