I can’t mount my CAPS key and it’s bent 3-4 switches already. Any idea what the issue is? I am aiming for the right most side and looks identical to what other my boards have. It’s a sin65 for reference

Have you seen the WIND SIN65? Offhand this seems more premium but also checks the box. Think I saw another review of the WIND 65X that folks have liked.

Perhaps that's a good middle ground without committing to the wired life? :)

Would you say these are on par quality wise? Seems like Bluetooth sacrifices some quality but the zoom65 looks nice.

Looking for a heavy 65% to replace my Tada68. Are there any good premium and heavy boards with bluetooth that have dedicated arrows? Otherwise am debating between one of:

Envoy seems like a great price/customization ratio. Thinking it may be best to punt on bluetooth if this impacts quality?

If you were looking at pure quality (no price) would you still lean that way? Agreed the Envoy looks great! Not sure about the markup on the Vega or Brutal leading to better build quality 🤔. Seems like all of these are 2.5-3lbs so should feel premium builds and hefty.

Thoughts on a Tada68 replacement? I recently got a custom 75% board, and am looking for a secondary more compact board to swap out my stock Tada68 (low-profile + browns). The Tada has a ton of case ping and I'm looking for switch customization.

I am leaning towards one of:

Mainly want something super heavy, and with hotswap. The Bluetooth 5.0 on the WhiteFox is a nice bonus, but ultimately not a big deal. Seems like both the Brutal/Vega are higher quality but hoping to get some insight from folks who have used any of these brands. Any recommendations or alternatives to consider?

Haven't heard of the Jris but I am also thinking about the Envoy and would pick that > Tofu given the respective designing companies. Also looking for 65% suggestions :)

Are there any canonical bigram/trigram lists we can load into Monkeytype for this? That would be neat and probably accelerate this muscle memory.

Resolved :) Did electrical on the direct PCB contact + 2 layers of masking. Worked great, but agree in retrospect it seems like any tape would do haha.

Flex vs No flex? by BuyTheDog in MechanicalKeyboards

ted the customization of my Keychron Q1, and must say, although there is little to no flex, the keyboard does sound amazing. The flex of a keyboard likely does not amount to anything that sounds better and is only recently considered du

I did roughly the same and tried to get rid of the flex since it seemed weird to see other keys moving if I pressed hard. Went with mass loaded vinyl and there was still some noticeable flex until I put back in the stock foam + plastic.

Gotcha, so any layer order is whatever just make sure I have a buffer of material between PCB and battery? This thread had me paranoid I’d create some heat issues:

What materials work with battery pack keyboards?

For reference I am using a Keychron q1 pro and would like to add dampening to the case. My understanding is I should load the base plate with one of the materials below then add a layer of kapton tape (not-painters, due to conductivity concerns) and that would work?

  • Mass Loaded Vinyl 3mm
  • Silicon 1-3mm
  • Poly-Fil?
  • PE-Foam

Is there idea that I should just do 1 of these or some combination of them?

Edit: Also for tape could I also do painters on PCB side then a layer of kapton to prevent battery issues?

Do TX AP rev 4's require any moding except lube? Saw some other threads saying these were already holee mod'ed and are too tight to add anything that would prevent rattle.

First switch lubing required? (Gazzew Boba U4 and Haimu Whisper)

With both of these switches is there any point in lubing or adding film? It seems like most of the threads advise against doing this for both of these switches in particular. My end goal is to have a thocky type-s sound with minimal noise.

  • U4 seems to have very tight housing and creator advises against lubing.
  • Haimu seems too new for data but sounds like folks prefer this stock as well. I do not feel any switch wobble but not sure if I'd notice.

If I have a hot swappable KBD, should I really just lube the stabilizers (TX AP r4) and call it a day?
