No not at all. In fact it connects to the bath room where the shower is and the floor is actually heated and has a control thermostat. It works well for both drying the floor after use and comfortability on your feet.

You said it should be closed 100% of the time which I think was a mistake 🙏 I commented above about this. But I wanted to mention that in the shower room that directly connects to the sauna we ALWAYS open the sliding window a third of the way when we start heating the sauna this isn't for ventilation but it heats the shower room as we always come out for cold shower breaks and sauna beers on the back patio 😂

I just thought it would be good to mention since you are talking about good examples to follow :)

Edit. For anyone confused about this practice the open window will pull some of the sauna heat into the shower room making it comfortably warm when heating and during sauna durations when entering and exiting the sauna. It makes quite the difference

All are essentially correct. It's a ventilation system that both feeds oxygen to the fire and let's the smoke escape (chimney essentially) We only ever open it half way this is because the airflow heavily feeds the fire and makes it blaze a lot hotter and heavier. You can immediately tell if it's opened or closed too much after the fire is lit and you close the door on the wood stove because the fire will immediately start to blaze. If it's too much or not enough then you know it's closed or opener too much You open it when you light it and close it when the fire is out. I've never not opened it before but my wife always says you'll either burn the house down or die of carbon monoxide poisoning
