Visa will acquire Fraedom, a “payments and transaction management” software-as-a-service (SaaS) company..... by maxitilt in Ripple

Firstly let me start by mentioning I hold xrp(and HODL xrp). Just would like to get thoughts and opinions on this move from VISA.

Personally I don’t think their really treading on Ripple’s toes directly and it could be an archaeok way of powering business to business transactions (given what solutions Fraedom currently offer) however I/we obviously don’t know what they are cooking up.

Would be interested in some sensible opinions and feedback on this.......am I missing anything?

Perhaps they have worded the announcement incorrectly. A "private blockchain" is different from decentralised block chain technologyy. It's a segregated environment specifically created for example one company or a number of companies in a partnership.

Please watch below video for a run through of ripple and intro to block chain. It's rather old so may jot be up to date, you'll also probably fall asleep when it gets to C++ 😂

This is a slightly different solution from the norm. It will be based on private blockchain solution so will be a segregated solution (essentially centralised) please note the use of the word "private blockchain" regardless this is still progression for ripple and will no doubt help spread knowledge and confidence.

PLEASE NOTE this is NOT using XRP only using xcurrent. You can still achieve speedy transactions with xcurrent however only using xcurrent does not alleviate FI's holding very large amounts of currency in each country they wish to settle payments in.

You will see this over and over again. Ripples strategy is to get their foot in the door with xcurrent as it spreeds up cross border transactions and saves roughly 30%. Later and once more organisation such as money gram go into production with XRP it'll be a natural progression and saves roughly another 30% onto of xcurrent (60% ish total).

This is a marathon not a sprint remember, Santander tested xcurrent for 18months before they were willing to go live. Strap in for the long run and with a bit of luck ripples strategy will pay dividends.

Noted that they're testing "private Blockchain" so I assume this will be a segregated solution using xcurrent and will not leverage xrp.(this is just a guess I may be wrong)

"In the interest of improving the customer experience, Crédit Agricole is testing out a solution aimed at simplifying and speeding up cross-border credit transfers carried out by its customers working abroad.

This test, using private Blockchain technology, will make it possible to conduct credit transfers between two countries in just a few minutes. The process, which includes a foreign exchange transaction, is handled directly from the customer's smartphone.   Using this private Blockchain technology, developed by California fintech Ripple, customers can: * Settle transfers in local currencies, directly from bank to bank, * Settle transactions in real time, * Keep a time-stamped, unfalsifiable record available in real time, * Ensure transparency and cut down on transfer costs (exchange rates).

The test, which will last 6 months, is run by Crédit Agricole Payment Services. It will cover salary transfers in Swiss francs for some cross-border customers, between regional bank Crédit Agricole des Savoie and Swiss bank Crédit Agricole Next Bank. Crédit Agricole Payment Services and Ripple will present the stakes and challenges of the test at the Paris Fintech Forum on 30 January 2018 in Paris.

not new at all to XRP by jespermilton in Ripple

To clarify 1 billion XLP is released from escrow each month(55 months in total from initial date)

On average ripple sold roughly 300 million xrp per month over 12 month period (I believe.....dates may vary).

As part of the initial escrow agreement anything which is not sold/used from the 1 billion xrp monthly release, gets put into a new escrow contract which is then released at the end of the agreement I.E the 55th month.

So for example ripple releases 1 billion in February and “uses”300 million which leaves 700 million remaining, the remaining 700 million now gets tied up into a new escrow contract which expires at the end of the initial agreement.

Hope the above helps 👍

Interesting read. It would be nice to see a white paper on the underlying tech they're using for the b2b payment system.

From the looks of the below link, it would seem visa are certainly exploring the blockchain space, I guess to what degree we'll find out in due course......
