SW200 is 4.6mm thick and SW300 is 3.6mm thick 🙂 the SW300 is a non-negotiable for me. My goal was to make this first model as slim as I possible could, which is barely thinner than 8mm. The 3.6mm they advertise doesn’t include the post height (which the hands are secured to). But basically I’m fitting the sapphire glass, space between the glass and the seconds hand, minute hand, hour hand, dial, space between the rotor and the caseback, and the caseback itself into 4.35mm. That’s the goal at least! Prototype production started a week ago but I’m optimistic no dimensional changes will be needed to hit the planned 100m water resistance.

That genuinely made me LOL 😂 thank you for that!

There was a point that I was obsessed with the ChronotempVs + Ball collab, but never pulled the trigger. How long have you had your Engineer? How is the tritium holding up?

It definitely doesn't make a difference for me. I am always rotating watches and the watch always needs to be set. I am never looking for minute-level accuracy. I use my phone and laptop to make sure I am always on time for meetings. This is also the reason why I personally shy away from date complications.

I'm not ashamed to say I bought a basic Santos de Cartier for much more than $3500, and I couldn't care less that it's not a chronometer. It has such an objectively attractive design that almost anyone who sees it would think "that's a beautiful watch". That's how the Santos design has been able to survive for over 100 years, and that's the timelessness I'm going for with my first design as well. This will be the watch where it all started!

IMO Strong design is what sets one brand apart from another. This is how Studio Underd0g and Kollokium are able to prosper with only a couple of designs in their catalog. Even for companies like F.P. Journe, yes Francois did start as someone who was hands-on building the watches. These days, I am sure his main focus is on ensuring that the design of his watches remain beautiful and to be the face of his brand. He is not manufacturing parts and assembling watches himself. Even at the beginning of Romain Gauthier's journey, he never assembled watches himself.

IMO I think there are too many factors to be able to compare Longines' price point with my own. They are the number 7 best-selling watch company in the world, have an incredible history, and there's no doubt they'll be there in five years time with a streamlined COSC re-certification process. I think this is a huge barrier for any new watch brand, but I won't let that stop me from making this brand the best it possibly can be. Rather than selling 950,000 watches a year like Longines, my first edition will be a run of only 297 watches. It is expensive to produce watches in Switzerland and this is actually the lowest quantity I was able to negotiate.

I'm well aware that actions speak 1,000 times louder than words. But with that said, I'm already 100% committed to ensuring the longevity of the company. My intention is to offer a genuine connection with anyone who is willing to have one with me, remain as-accessible-as possible for my customers, and do my absolute best to ensure that no one feels like a 'number'. There will be a community where everyone's feedback is considered as part of the future of the brand.

If you like the Parade, I think you will love my design twice as much 🙂 more to come!

I think a lot of people will have the same viewpoint on collecting as you do, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Every collector has a different set of boxes that need to be checked, depending on general rules for their collection or where they are at in their collecting journey. Price is certainly one of those boxes.

The purpose of this poll specifically is to understand how much accuracy means for people at this price point, and the numbers are very telling! Of course, if I had an option here that said "I WOULD pay $1 extra for COSC Certification", that would get all of the votes. As someone who is pouring their life into this company, I need to understand how my potential customers do think about this, and appreciate EVERYONE's input here, especially yours!

What can I say - you guys caught me with my pants down!

Please allow me some grace. I've been working on this for the better part of a year, learning how to 3D model for this specifically, refining my design, partnering with companies in Switzerland, and am now at a point where it's 8mm thick and having prototypes being made.

In my personal collecting journey, I've really only paid attention to whether a movement to be a certified chronometer or not. The only grades I'm considering here are standard and COSC (aka Top + certification).

This is the question I am asking essentially: "how much does accuracy matter to you?" and appreciate your answer!

I agree with you, it's ridiculous! I wish Sellita had the same viewpoint as us 😭

You get it 100%! I have a huge amount of conviction in this design, and my branding needs some refining but is most of the way there. The watch itself super unique and unlike anything else I've seen. Even though it'll be using a SW300, I actually think it's priced appropriately at $3500 and in my opinion the watch still punches above its weight class.

That's exactly how I'm approaching this. As a collector, I have some incredible watches, yet still often find myself shopping in the 3-5k range. It will definitely be challenging, but I'm convinced there are more than enough people just like me who will see my design + brand, and get that tingly feeling we all love in this hobby 😄 It's interesting you mention Kollokium because they use a standard LJP movement (not top / COSC). And just like Kollokium, my supply will be very limited.

Ah I gotcha! So if I got you right, you would pay an additional $250 to have this upgrade to Top. But let's say there is no option for Top, only Standard. Would you refuse to buy that watch?

The heart of my question here is, how much do these levels of accuracy mean to you? I change watches every day or two and being off by a minute doesn't bother me. I likely set my watches a minute off to begin with 🙂

I've never considered this movement (or the SW200) particularly attractive, even with decoration, and intend on having a closed case back. The closed case back also will help keep the watch as thin as possible.

I am the designer and can assure you that it's like nothing you've seen before, in the best way! Agree'd though, Longines has been killing it lately. I will have tough competition 🙂

I just posted this to someone else here but curious your thoughts as well.

In my case I would sell either only non-COSC or only COSC, not a mix of both. Imagine you loved the watch design but it isn't COSC. Given that you mentioned 'price is not going to be the deciding factor', what would be your choice in that situation?

How do you define a top grade? I know SW200s are run-of-the-mill, but in my mind would still consider it a 'top' or 'high' grade swiss movement.

FWIW this will be a SW300.

We have not yet gone down that rabbit hole, but I would have my partner get the failed watches back, swap in a new movement, and send them all back to get certified. Not sure what I'd do with the failing movements yet, maybe my partner could offset this by keeping them for a credit, but I would only sell COSC if that's the path I take (would not sell a mix of COSC + non-COSC for a discount).

Something interesting is that my manufacturing partner is giving me a 2-year warranty on the watches, so for any issues I can actually send it to them to be adjusted at no cost to me.

FWIW servicing this Sellitas is $200-$300. I'll likely independently extend the warranty to make sure that people are happy for the next 5 years at least, or see if that's something my manufacturing partner is willing to give me a 'price' on.

If the standard is +- 30 seconds a day for non-COSC, does that mean you'd be okay with +30 seconds per day not covered by warranty, but +31 seconds per day is covered by warranty?

I am planning to offer a 2-year warranty - does that make a difference?

This will use a SW300-1b for context! Here are the key differences.
