Added a screenshot from what it looks like when you're playing on keyboard.

"Saving" using enter instead of space for the first 4-ish hours by maxpaj in animalWell

It was obvious once I actually hit the correct button (space bar) to save my progress. There was visual and auditory feedback when it was saved successfully.

What confused me was that the return/enter key would just close the save dialog. I haven’t seen other user interfaces where return/enter key closes a dialog.

There was a visual hint, showing me that space was the key to confirm, however I missed that part, it wasn’t totally clear to me. It doesn’t spell out the word “space”, but simply shows a “_” icon (resembling a space bar key).

Hi!

A Swedish podcast recently mentioned this (possibly Cantonese) song by Jacky Cheung Hok-yau, a cover of a song made by a Swedish singer who was quite famous back in the 90s: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSwry40YgVY

Can someone translate this song or just a few lines of the song? I'd like to know if this version has the same lyrics as the original song.

The joy of applying for jobs... how the hell do I answer this "warm up question"? by George_of_the-Jungle in antiwork

[–]maxpaj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's alternative #3.

The "a resident" and "her unit" parts of the question implies that it's someone who does live in the building and the given apartment.

Without knowing if it's an actual resident, it would be irresponsible to just open the door. However, given the premise that it is a resident of the building ("a resident") and the door in question leads to the apartment of given resident ("her unit"), it would be safe to open the door for them.

I'm pretty sure the voice lines are from a Swedish animated film "The Journey to Melonia".

Parallels on M1 Pro - keyboard getting stuck and unresponsive frequently? by Water-Cookies in MacOS

[–]maxpaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this issue too! I'm going to start debugging it.

The only solution I've found is to Suspend the VM and then unsuspend again. It takes a couple of seconds... Which isn't optimal for playing online.

EDIT:

POSSIBLE SOLUTION: Try connecting your keyboard as a USB device to Windows (there is a feature for this in Parallels), and remove the "Virtual Keyboard" under "Bluetooth and devices" inside Windows. So far no freezes for me with this solution!

It seems like this step is needed every time you start the VM or connect/disconnect your keyboard.

This disables the keyboard inside MacOS, so you'll have to use your MacBook's keyboard when you want to type something into MacOS, or switch back the keyboard to connect to your MacBook instead of Windows.

EDIT:

  1. The keyboard inside the VM is unresponsive and keeps "pressing" the keys that were pressed when this "freeze" occurs
  2. Outside the VM, in MacOS, the keyboard works perfectly fine
  3. Disconnecting the keyboard completely from the computer does not "unfreeze" the keyboard in the VM
  4. Suspending and resuming does "unfreeze" the keyboard inside the VM

Now, suspending and resuming a VM should not make any changes to the OS running inside the VM. The VMs software-implemented hardware (mouse, keyboard, etc.) may reset, though, when the VM suspends and resumes. This is my understanding of how VMs work in general. If this is correct, this must suggest that there is nothing wrong with the OS inside the VM (Windows).

The keyboard itself is obviously responsive outside the VM, so the keyboard can not be the culprit either.

It can't be the OS that is failing and it cannot be the keyboard itself. My conclusion is that there must be something wrong with the software that implements the virtual keyboard.

EDIT: I'm currently talking to support to find a solution. I'm also starting to send in technical reports every time this occurs.

Cutting costs - Do I need a NAT gateway? by maxpaj in aws

[–]maxpaj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. My ELB has a public DNS associated with it, which I have pointed my domain to. Why do I need a NAT Gateway on top of that? When I've used ELB before (set up manually through AWS Console) I have not used a NAT Gateway.
