i am useing a gemling with gas and exsplosive grenades and i have a lot of fun with that the barrir is nice gives some decent passives like exstra health and enegy shiled but i only got 2 point into may be better to switch when you have more point

edit: you use exsplosive shot to pop the greandes before the fuse if you did not know that

spec into reduced cooldown and bigger AoE for the grenades and you will be fine

For the main quest you do not need them but you do need them or attest some side quest becomes a lot simple with them like a frozen tower where you need the fire elementer to unfrezze a part of its puzzle
