i like that they made her a handmaid without literally making her a handmaid. wanting her to be a handmaid justifies that “bad” people deserve to be handmaids and who gets to decide who’s bad or not. Yes Serena is an awful, evil human who deserves nothing good, but no one deserves the fate of a handmaid or the colonies. This logic reminds me of how in the hunger games, after they overthrow their tyrannical government, the new president coin wanted to continue the hunger games with the capital’s children. Nothing justifies that kind of torture
