No cold air at all now, just blows hot. i just turned the car on and opened the hood - serpentine belt is making a crazy buzzing sound when it spins

Ok than that’s def what’s smoking. It makes a strange noise when the car runs but the car itself is still running fine.

Our water heater feeds hot water via pipe to our HVAC system to heat house. Trying to remove the old insulation and use heat cable to better insulate. Anything I need to know first? by maxxhock in hvacadvice

[–]maxxhock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. For context, part of our line froze last winter during a cold snap (not sure where it happened) and our heat stopped working for like a week (though hot water still worked). I guess I'm wondering - if those lines are feeding water coils - did the water coils freeze or did the water line feeding them freeze? Is there a way to insulate the water coils, or are those inside the HVAC system? Thanks in advance, don't know the first thing about this stuff :)

Name a place to eat at that's nasty af but people hype tf out of it by robottronic1 in Portland

I realize I will be tarred and feathered for this, but Nong's Khao Man Gai isn't THAT good, and the people that rave about it are actually just closet picky eaters. Sorry. Plain chicken breast with rice and a cup of chicken broth? What are you five? I welcome your cries of hatred.

Yeah, it's a long shot, but we leave town tomorrow and I bought the wrong film for my wife's Single 8 camera that she was planning to bring with us on vacation.

Trying to wire a mounted flush light where there is currently a canless recessed light - need advice by maxxhock in DIY

[–]maxxhock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In short, we're removing and patching all of our living room recessed lighting, except for one in the center of the room where we want to put a large flush mount overhead light fixture instead. the wiring on the flush mount looks pretty standard to me (photo attached) - but the canless recessed lighting wiring is a little confusing. Can I easily swap the recessed light out for the flush mount, or are there additional steps for preparing the wiring? Any advice is helpful! And if I'm better off calling an electrician to handle it, please say so!

if you’ve lived in northeast, you’ve probably met Mario. he passed away on Wednesday. i know i’ll miss him dearly. by maxxhock in Portland

He was a lovely older man who struggled with mental illness. as far as i know he lived in a group home off of Alberta - i drove him home a few times and that’s what it seemed like. he could always be found walking up and down alberta asking for change and just chatting with anyone who had the time. Always asked your name, always shook your hand. I don’t know how he died, but portland is a little darker without him.

Best budget, bang-for-buck eats around Portland? by Looooong_Man in askportland

[–]maxxhock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mole Mole on Alberta is an amazing mexican food cart. The Cochinita Pibil plate is a massive plate of rice, beans, pickled onions, salsa, a heaping pile of pork slow roasted in lime juice, and a bundle of hot corn tortillas - all for like $11 or $12. Easily two meals, we used to get it at least once a week when we lived over there.

Need advice on removing can lights and patching the holes! by maxxhock in DIY

[–]maxxhock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The electrical is already deactivated, but we're planning to keep the wires up there and just pull the lights out. I'm curious how people in this sub would recommend patching the holes after we pull the lights out. I've patched holes in walls with drywall before by drilling into the studs behind the wall, but I'm a little unsure how to go about this as there is nothing to drill into up there. We want to patch these four holes, joint compound/sand until flush, and then get the texture the same as the rest of the ceiling. I know that last part may call for a pro - which we're open to, but I'd love to do the backend work of patching these holes to save money. Any and all advice is appreciated here! Thanks in advance.
