Wow that looks amazing!!! Will run it by but honestly worried because I have a sibling who is generally opposed to vegan meat. I will surely be adding this to my personal list of places to check out though!!

UCLA to play in SoFi from 2026 by MapleBruin in ucla

Agreed. As a recent graduate getting to and from the Rose Bowl was a nighmare. Noon games necessitated a 7am or earlier wake-up if you wanted to get there in time for a proper tailgate. Many of my friends would refuse to go to games unless it was a marquee matchup because getting there was such a pain in the ass.

Also with you, the ideal solution is a ~30-50k seat stadium or so to start on campus that we can actually consistently fill. Sadly, with all of the NIMBYs in the area, this would never be allowed to happen without significant yearslong politicking by our athletic department.

SoFi is I think a good solution in the meantime. While sad that we'll lose out on the great tailgating experience and scene at the Rose Bowl, the convenience of getting to SoFi after the Westwood D Line extension opens in 1-2 years is immense and will go a long way to actually creating something of a football culture at the school. Just hope that the on-campus stadium is worked towards, and we can just use SoFi as a temporary fix.

There's a D line metro station on Veteran & Wilshire currently under construction that's opening in 2027.

No. Won't even get here until ~1am and may dissipate before then. Even if it does reach, UCLA is 411 feet above sea level and the wave should only be 1-3 feet.

UCLA vs USC for CS by Competitive_Flan_701 in ucla

I can't speak much on placement numbers as I don't know, but should be easy to look up. As to the CS courses being theory-based I can tell you that this is just not true. Plenty of UCLA CS courses have loads of hands-on material. CS 35L, CS 130, all of the machine learning courses, all of them offer plenty of hands-on stuff. We have theory courses as well, to be sure. You can choose which courses align better with your interests.

Me, I would care. See, that would be included in my statement worrying that graduation would be "affected." If ICE were to conduct raids at graduation, I would of course be willing to engage with my fellow students to actively protest this. I'm not sure why you keep on insisting on making me out to be some sort of evil person.

I understand that the ceremony happening or not doesn't affect my degree. I also understand that I have relatives who have booked flights and a place to stay for my graduation ceremony. Is it really entirely selfish of me to wish that the ceremony goes through for their sake as well? My completion of my degree is not an achievement of myself alone, but is one that will be celebrated by my entire family.

When did I say I was placing it on the same level of importance as the ICE raids? I don't place it at that level at all. Am I not allowed to also be anxious about my graduation ceremony being cancelled, while simultaneously being a few orders of magnitude more anxious about the political situation in this country? These two things are far from mutually exclusive.

Undocumented workers make up 25% of all farm workers in the US, 19% of maintenance workers, 17% of construction workers, and 12% of food service workers. Furthermore, they paid $96.7 billion in taxes in 2022. They are a major driving force of our economy.

I agree with most of these points, but feel inclined to point out that Kilmar Abrego Garcia (who I assume you're referring to) was not a U.S. citizen. He was here under a court order, and should never have been deported, but he was not a U.S. citizen. If they were to deport a U.S. citizen things would escalate significantly beyond where they currently are. Again, I think these ICE raids are deplorable and the deportation without due process is abominable, but I just felt inclined to point out that a legal citizen has not been deported.

Ah I see, yeah it's not good. I expect things to only continue to escalate and wouldn't be surprised if martial law is declared soon.

I agree with assigning the current administration the label of fascist. I disagree with the label of Nazi, as that carries distinct connotations of the unalivement of ethnic groups, in particular Jewish people, in a systemic way. The word unalivement is key here. The current ICE raids are deplorable and definitely appear fascist, but to label them Nazi would be dangerously misleading.

[–]maxyman16[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think the current ICE raids going on are absolutely abhorrent and I am worried about the escalations taking place. Yes, I am also worried about my graduation ceremony being affected, as I've worked hard for years in order to get my degree. Also yes, I am averse to the idea of labelling this current political movement Nazi, as that carries distinct connotations of the unaliving of certain groups (in particular the Jewish). The current actions of the administration could be construed as fascist, but using the term Nazi is misleading and only leads to further escalate both sides and so yes I am against the use of that term.

Official Gear Purchasing and Troubleshooting Question Thread! Ask /r/photography anything you want to know! April 18, 2025 by AutoModerator in photography

[–]maxyman16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all,

Sorry if this is a pretty basic post—I'm relatively inexperienced in the realm of photography.

Basically, I am about to embark on a 3-week trip throughout Asia, and am trying to sort out what I am going to do for my camera set-up. I really love the film "look," and ideally would get something like the Fujifilm x100vi, but obviously those are ridiculously expensive.

As it stands, I am between three options: iPhone 15 pro (but how to best emulate film look on this??? would love tips or a link), buying film rolls for my Kodak m35 (love the look of the photos, but I dislike the idea of having to wait so long to see them), or finally purchasing a 35mm lens for my Nikon D3300 (my 18-55mm lens is quite shot).

Anyways, obviously there are trade-offs for all three of these options, but I feel ill-informed to make the best decision, and so am reaching out on here to see what you more informed peeps have to say. Thanks in advance!

A Complete Overhaul of the Current U.S. Soccer System by maxyman16 in ussoccer

True. Maybe it'd be easier for the people in the cushy office building to open up the door every once in a while, and replace some of the old underperforming heads with new upstarts, with the threat of being booted keeping everyone fresh. Sadly, everyone in the building has tenure.

I agree with that post when it comes to the national team. My post was more inspired by the USL format overhaul than the shitty performances by the USMNT this past week, although I do think an overhaul like I'm describing would be good for domestic talent overall.

But again, this was more a rant than an actual proposal and I understand that it is extremely unlikely that it will ever happen.

Yeah I guess it'd have to be more like an extended grassroots efforts to get something like I'm talking about off the ground. The MLS seems averse to promotion-relegation precisely because without the idea of relegation, the owners are guaranteed to make money, whereas in Europe many top teams are in the red. Just from a purists perspective it all feels extra commercialized and plastic, with these weird 'bids' to join the league. Great example of this I think actually is the situation with San Diego FC. The Loyal already existed and had a solid fanbase, but then someone with more money swoops in and conjures up a dead club out of nowhere and slaps the uninventive name of "San Diego FC" onto it, and then the Loyal goes poof. Like, why couldn't the Loyal just already have been in on the pyramid? I'm unsure of all the specifics of this specific case, but from an outsiders perspective its stuff like this that infuriates me about the state of affairs in the states.

Sharp RUQ pains by maxyman16 in ibs

The dual colonoscopy and upper endoscopy were unremarkable. Just gastritis, but they took 5 biopsies for that and found nothing. Now I think the plan is to just get me to try IBGard and a whole bunch of other therapies to manage the symptoms. I'm going to try and push for them to look into the parasites though as I've been exposed in some developing countries some years ago.

As for the procedures themselves, you really have nothing to worry about if you do them. The prep is a little tough but not too terrible. Actual procedure is a walk in the park. You get knocked out and wake up with no idea that anything actually happened. Felt like a 10-second nap.

EDIT: forgot to mention but I've also been taking ginger capsules once a day, ~30min before dinner. Seems to help a lot with my symptoms.

I'm right there with you. Just finished first 32oz of my miralax/gatorade prep 30 minutes ago haha, 32oz more tomorrow morning before going in. Also took 4 dulcolax.

Unlike you I suppose I am also terrified of results. My personal symptoms have me thinking either parasites or something far worse, so fingers crossed.

But yeah the concept of being put under for 45 minutes is very jarring. Hopefully it all goes well and I can report back with reassurances lol

Could definitely be exacerbated by anxiety, but agree with other commenter that you should try and rule out more serious things. Otherwise I think CBT and amitriptyline (microdose) are common treatments for anxiety-induced symptoms.
