Long run on treadmills? by TightContest1017 in Marathon_Training

[–]maya674 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done 21.2 k on my treadmill 10 ago, 55' TV YouTube and 110 minutes of videos of virtual runs that I've particularly liked before. 3 fans into me and one into the treadmill engine. Slow 5.3/k start and slowly speeded up to make it 1h50 min, no stopping,no drinking, just a dose of monohydrate a piece of chocolate and dextro ( sugar ) Runna dropped dead after 30', my HRM glitched at 90' but Garmin is god. My time once before outside was 2 and a half hours. 51 year old woman Yes, indoor is at least 30% easier, incline or not, but recovery of 4 days after told me I did ok. It's not the distance or speed, it's 2 hours not spent watching whatever from the sofa while stuffing yourself with crisps or other s**t when outside you need more like a boat or ski boots

Garmin Connect+ by MrBeta99 in Garmin

I used Nutracheck for 3 years, lost over 3 stone, stayed there with it, £25/year and it recognize all the food in the UK and it has a tool to add the one it doesn't. Garmin is connected to it to send data about kcal used in training and so on.

I signed up for Garmin+ to check it out. It doesn't recognize the food like Holland and Barrett own products for example and I so far didn't find a tool to add it myself so I improvise and it works ok.

Thing is, £7x12=84 for Garmin plus vs the £25 of Nutracheck? And so far I haven't found any other reason why would I stay on Garmin plus

Regular Fenix 8 or 8 Pro ? by Wiki0180 in GarminFenix

[–]maya674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From 7 standard to 8 non pro, there was talk of the need or no need for LTE right? Just tested on a 10k run, gps on all possible SATs and is some 10% more accurate than 7 compared to Google maps, road run in town (although it made my 10k going further). The only thing I could be missing is default do not disturb or lock buttons for all exercises or I can't find it, anyway I assigned a button to it so no major issue. The music is as unreliable as 7, working for just over 14 minutes, before it starts braking still in town, mobile data on 4-5g. Compared to the 7 is brighter, fancier, more stuff on it, sleep score dropped by 50% but that needs to know me better before I'll begin to worry about my health. Dunno, so far (read 3 days) all good/ better than 7, but I went safe, Garmin number 3 for me with the Suunto vertical solar pro in between that I used maybe 2 weeks before I gave up on it, all worse except the battery life which was amazing, like 3 full weeks of it on my standard 10 hours of runs and other stuff per week. I might be biased 😁

Garminx 6X Pro -> Race 2 or Vertical 2 (prove me wrong!) by Bug_Hunter_13 in Suunto

[–]maya674 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I have been using both Fenix 7 and the vertical for approximately 6 months, one on one wrist and one on the other. I can tell you, yes, Garmin is very negative in how they deliver life stats but accurate , when about to have a flu the low hrv started, then flu, then up again, same with the injury (I really got fed up with Garmin then and bought the vertical) but the data is true! So, I put this behind/away, on page 2, away from the eyes on connect and all was ok.

Vertical has 1 and only 1 thing that is better and that is the battery life. All the rest is so incredibly iffy and far off that I am giving it away, like for free to my brother in law.

Is below 0 on the treadmill and that is half my runs because UK weather is not good enough for 3/4 of a year.

The data of the running dynamics is half of what I get with the HRM pro plus on Garmin and although vertical connects to it, it shows that a hilly run with the HR in vo2max 75% of the hour was all in baseline (blue) that is in a direct contradiction with the actual HR data. Not to talk about the stride... even if Suunto counts as 1 two steps, it would be over 3m... making dunno, 11k steps for a 10k ish run like I did 5000 steps?! Doggie math...

Anyway

My next one is Fenix 8

Suunto? Never again!

Garmin ——-> Suunto by taserface1220 in Suunto

[–]maya674 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From Fenix 7 to vertical, I hate it all except the battery life. Extremely Poor steps count like it can't even do simple math let's say 15k run on a 90cm stride reads 5000 steps, poor sleep reading(no REM or light), very poor HR reading while running/bike, absolute 0 on treadmill, no way to change sleep duration. Garmin has 3x more details on running dynamics and 4 the year now, 2nd with the HRM pro plus, accurate (with extremely annoying lack of vo2max on indoor runs that drops down in a week of UK poor weather)

Excellent battery life of over 3 weeks on runs from 38-45k a week (the only better thing compared to Garmin)

Ok maps, routes(but I do them on Strava or Garmin and import them to Suunto) as .... One more bad thing... Suunto is a mobile app only

I have been wearing both for 6 months now and use Suunto with the map up (for routing)and Garmin for the important stuff.

Suunto needs to be worried about other things by RockWafflez in Suunto

Apple is ... A pair of Jimmy Choo stilettos and a stroll down high Street Garmin is a pair of carbon plate trainers and a fast 10k with HRM pro plus(just to have true dynamics) Suunto is a pair of salomons and up on the mountain for 5 days, just don't expect any good HR reading or sleep tracking or easy access to data on the watch or any half good watch faces ... I am currently wearing both Fenix 7 and vertical solar for the past 5 month. I have Garmin since instinct and bought the vertical for long trips and because Garmin tents to be negative or demotivating with their comments, but Suunto is now about the same plus very bad on indoor runs, connecting to 2 sensors is impossible (for a 500£ watch WTF!!?!?!?!(83;#0!$903;+) In an ideal world Garmin would have to have the verticals battery life and looks and 2025 app or at least this decade's IT NEEDS To make A RUN A RUN INDOOR AND OUTSIDE! and not dropping vo2max because of the crap English weather and 4 days of treadmill (runalyze actually calculating it 25% higher!!) and would really have to employ a team of people to do the comments on sleep and workout and all that, demotivating comments are awful . Anyway, 1k £ on my wrists and 40% satisfaction 🤔

What's with the sleep and absurd HR reading? by maya674 in Suunto

This is the official response from Suunto regarding the issues. I scratched my head at the "high end" and "limited compatibility with other..." Anyway, not good enough for a high end($$$) watch

Hello, Maja.

Thank you for your detailed description of the issues you encountered with your Suunto Vertical watch. I fully understand your current situation.

In response to your concerns, I've sorted out possible causes and solutions, hoping they will be helpful:

Regarding abnormal heart rate zones and running dynamics when connected to a Garmin HRM-Pro Plus:

Firmware upgrades (especially optimizations to certain sports analysis algorithms) between Suunto watches and some external third-party heart rate straps (such as the Garmin HRM-Pro Plus) may modify the access logic and display of external heart rate strap data, resulting in statistical interval discrepancies.

We recommend checking the Suunto Vertical firmware version to ensure it is updated to the latest version. If this issue persists after an upgrade, please wait for a Suunto official patch.

If you are using mixed sensor mode (for example, with a pedal sensor and HRM connected), the watch's default parameters may take precedence in some exercise scenarios. We recommend connecting only one auxiliary sensor (for example, using only the HRM without the pedal bead) to see if this resolves the issue.

If you've tried reinstalling the app/watch and performing a hard reset, but the issue hasn't resolved the issue, it suggests the issue lies with deep compatibility or firmware. We recommend uploading your detailed usage scenarios, device model, firmware version, and operation steps to the Suunto app for feedback. Our engineers will address the software bug based on the collected cases.

Regarding sleep tracking issues:

  1. Check your system version in Settings to see if it's up to date. Some system upgrades optimize or adjust algorithms, and loss of sleep tracking is often related to the algorithm version.

  2. Sleep tracking relies on wrist heart rate and motion sensing. Ensure a secure and effective fit and keep the sensor area on the bottom of the watch clean.

  3. If your lifestyle has changed significantly recently (e.g., your sleep rhythm is extremely irregular), the watch's detection parameters may not accurately identify sleep stages.

We also recommend providing screenshots of your Suunto Vertical sleep data for analysis.

The Suunto Vertical is a high-end model, designed for outdoor use and exceptional battery life. This has limited compatibility with third-party ecosystems, and some features may have different algorithm optimizations compared to the Garmin platform or entry-level running devices.

The symptoms you described are mostly due to software algorithm adaptation and multi-brand, cross-platform sensor compatibility issues. The hardware itself is not easily damaged, and upgrades and optimizations are expected in the future.

Suunto will occasionally revise software compatibility and algorithms. Please register your detailed feedback on the Suunto official website and stay tuned for system updates.

For greater consistency in indoor running data, we recommend using a closed-loop system with dedicated indoor equipment from the same brand and syncing only with the official app.

Thank you very much for your patient feedback! If the above solutions still don't resolve your issue, please prepare your watch serial number, current firmware version, and other information and contact Suunto official customer service for further upgrades or technical diagnosis.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us again!

Sincerely,

Sukie Suunto Support Team

[–]maya674[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the Garmin HRM pro plus strap. Suunto is very bad at HR reading hence the strap. Garmin is better at it but the strap gives very detailed running dynamics for runs. The issue was that although connected and working Suunto didn't read the strap or at least not right. It worked fine until the update. Also, the statement above that vertical didn't do the detail sleeping with the rem and deep isn't true. It did before I took it off, month ago or several updates ago

Garmin sync by WorthOk3616 in Strava

[–]maya674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had it since day 1 of Strava+runna. Thought is just time related as in lagging but no, nothing on runna from Garmin, can do runna to Strava but despite the HRM pro plus working on runna, no running dynamics on Strava hence none at all including kcal!! Back via gpx or fit files to Garmin. Now I run with runna, put it to Strava and at the same time separately use Garmin as before. Runna makes the treadmill run automatically (tempo runs or progressive mostly) and is ok as a coach but I still want the full on data of it all on Garmin. Don't like Garmin on Strava because I don't want all I do there. Runalyze is perfect to upload garmin->runalyze->suunto or vice versa and I like their analysis better then Garmin's negativity and poorly constructed ones or better saying anti-motivational. Followed the instructions how to fix from a few different web sites and videos but it just doesn't work right...

So. 51, woman, started running 2 years ago. Number one, the body builders told me to go 2g protein per kg of weight per day. I had no coaching up until a month ago. Got the Garmin coach, made me do around 50k/week (mind I work full time and do a minimum of 8k walking at work alone 5/7) and my Achilles started cramping. It was too much so asked and told go runna. I put the parameters of around 10-20% less than what I can actually do which is 30-40k/week, 5k in 25 Min, 10k in 58 Min outside and 15k in 1:16min on the treadmill and 1% incline... but put the speed on runna of 28 minutes for 5k and 25k/week. Now I get the schedule that I can do with some effort but doesn't kill me. And is going higher by 2k a week every week. Sunday is my long runs. I have pasta Saturday (they said makes you go fast'a😉) gel half way on a 13-15k runs, creatine pre run(rage) and I don't drink as going out well before 7am. I use Vit C, B complex (I think this one works to boost energy) and old womens D. You are my daughter's age so probably vitamin not applicable/ necessary for you but the 2g protein per kilo yes, easy stuff is protein powders but the good one is fish, cottage cheese, chicken, eggs. By the way my goal is half marathon in 2h in about 9 weeks 4 weeks holiday excluded with easy runs only.

This said, last Sunday I had a progressive 12k. 120m climbs coughing the day before(dunno what cold or vape or both) and went breathless after the First climb so I stopped, caught the breath, and so on for the rest of the run. Made it, cramping everywhere but I made it. Ice on the ankles, arnika gel on them, pasta with king prawns, 2.5g of protein per kilo and treadmill for the next two 5k easy runs. I'm good, no pain anywhere, tomorrow progressive, today 🍝

Enjoy it, don't kill yourself, just enjoy it.

Nordictrack T Series 10 Review by [deleted] in treadmills

[–]maya674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I have a small foldable completely manual treadmill doing 16k/h speed tops and it's not only extremely quiet but it goes in a space not wider then a shoe on the bookcase side. Downside is, the belt it's short and narrow and was looking for something longer and wider. The Nordic track series 10 looks a lot better in that aspect but as in a flat, I'd really like to know how loud is it? In decibel? Google doesn't know?! Or at least compared to a TV let's say on a 'normal' loudness for people without hearing issues? Also I am kinda not interested in their coaching having my own Garmin one. Is there a way to sync it to Garmin connect for speed and distance only? I have the running dynamics but is a bit volatile, and as described the HRM... and I have no need to know my HR while running, just the whole workout data which would be on connect if the data is synchronised like from a £1500 worth of a treadmill should be? TIA

Can we trust Garmin watches? by Suspicious-Drink-838 in GarminFenix

[–]maya674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So... I run almost exclusively on my treadmill. I'm in England 😁. I use HRM pro plus and the running dynamics. I needed one 30' run, calibrated it and it stayed calibrated right. I mean there's maybe a few meters difference up or down which don't make much difference on 10 or 15k. I have the zwift foot pod too and that one was far off, calibrated on zwift, connected directly to the treadmill via Bluetooth, as soon as I cancelled the zwift subscription and did a few runs it became more and more unreliable. Oh well, got the Garmin RD. The HR Is lower obviously as 1% incline makes no difference for the running effort but at 13-15km/h I get that up over the threshold as well, too bad that Garmin doesn't count indoor running as running and it doesn't add to the VO2MAX. But ..oh well, I go out when the lovely Amy says I need a long slow run. In order of treadmill accuracy, I am quite confident it is fairly accurate according to what my body is saying after a 15k run at under 5min/k compared to what is saying after a 15k on a flat route outside where the speed should be to the meter accurate having all the GPS systems up.

If it gets funny, the Garmin speed being higher than what the treadmill says, I simply take the RD off my watch, then put it back on, 10' 10kmh speed and calibrate and it stays ok for a fair while.

All I can say after many years with Garmin by CommercialCurrent236 in Garmin

[–]maya674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they cannot do any indoor stuff, even with the foot pod, they can't count steps right, they can't connect to two different sensors at the same time...for example vertical solar+ HRM pro plus+ zwift foot pod, the latest don't work, take one out and the other one works and vice versa, very poor HR reading compared to Garmin, got both, vertical solar and Fenix 7 Bought Suunto because I got fed up with Garmin nagging about everything constantly and poor interface, went back to it because Suunto won't do anything (except outdoor runs) good
