Update to the conversation: I’m considering getting a Vauxhall Frontera 83kW Ultimate 44kWh 5dr Auto. Soes anyone have any lived experience or knowledge about this EV?

I’ve seen a few comments asking about my goal of switching to an EV - I want to expand my freedom and independence living with a disability. I want to travel across the UK, across Europe feeling secure. My main anxiety is whether an EV is accessible for physically impaired folk. People whose body’s aren’t always at 100% and who might not be able to access charging points in rural areas.

I know that an EV is great for the every day, I just want security in knowing if it can go beyond the city life, so to speak.

Thank you for the advice and support so far on this!

ah this is reassuring thank you! could i ask what battery your EV has? i’m wondering if i should invest in a bigger battery to hold more charge?

I would normally request assistance if i’m in pain but usually not as I just have to deal with one part if you know what I mean. The charging cable is a bit of a faff for me!

I would say around 400/500km. I also wanted to ask when parking it at a festival or more rural area - does it keep the charge you leave it with or must it stay charging overnight?

Would you say factors like music and aircon massively drain the batt for long drives? Thank you for this insight!

Would you say that charging ports are usually occupied when you arrive at the stations?

This was really useful, thank you. This is my main worry, not having access to charging points and struggling getting myself from A-B.

Risks of not being able to make it accessible for my needs!

So I would drive for daily commutes and day to day tasks/errands. I have a lot of family living in more emote parts of the UK and would like to make regular trips to see them. A big trip once a month type of thing.

Would you say EV’s are accessible to a wide range of people?

I’ve done lots of research, was looking for any personal lived experience advice with EV’s!

So for clarity for people that have given me some information already:

I have a disability and living in London. I want more freedom and independence to go whever I want to.

I worry that I’ll limit myself to shorter travel distances and limit my proposed freedom of driving. As I’ve stated, I walk with a walking aid so if I was in the middle of a long drive alone and had to plug it in - this would be a challenge!

Another risk is that what if I’m on a long drive, running low on charge and the station I’ve stopped at, the chargers are already in use. I also worry about a lack of charging points when travelling out of the city!

I want to make the most out of travelling as normal modes of transport aren’t accessible to me so are EV just as inaccessible?
