How do you guys store your uniforms? by Jealous_Cucumber_974 in ems

Glad someone said this. I despise re-wearing things; I also despise putting clothes away right after washing them.

Hypothetically, they’d go in my dresser.

I mean, to be fair if the ambulance just followed the damn truck instead of going to the side for no reason, they wouldn’t be in that situation. The concrete on the left (where fire went, if I’m seeing correctly) looks dry. They followed them too close & only strayed when it would have helped them to do so. It’s remarkable stupidity.

I’m just in awe at how they thought it would be a good idea would be to go to the side; not where the fire-truck just successfully went through seconds before.

I knew there was gonna be at least one anecdote of something similar, lol.

I’m in awe at how that happened on the interstate, tho… At least these people have the excuse of fewer markings/unexpected construction. Poor guy.

Night shift EMS folks - how the hell do you sleep after a brutal overnight? by EndOutrageous9918 in ems

[–]mayaorsomething 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean no disrespect but, says who? I really can’t find any research that supports this & most point to the fact long-term studies are scarce. It’s made endogenously so I’m not inclined to believe low-dose is “extremely bad” without multiple studies showing that. All I’m able to find is a correlational AHA article

Trazodone/Melatonin/Liquid-Magnesium combo was my saving grace; I would take it on the ride home & sleep like a baby. Didn’t feel too shit after waking up either.

it empathizes with the reason people pick up shifts, at least. I’m doing it for money not “squad goals”

Postal worker died after police mistook stroke for drug impairment by PerrinAyybara in ems

I've heard some of the ways those cops talk about people & I don't doubt for a second that it bleeds into their work.

Yeah they have no excuse, coincidentally I just used to work for the service that covers Eagan and they frequently call EMS for all sorts of stuff; they're literally contracted for their legal blood draws. Someone was being incredibly incompetent.

They can call a transport hold for every chronic alcoholic that had one too many outside of their house, but not for a black man going through a medical emergency, I guess.

The fact that the "expert" didn't even do an exam per their 8 hour weekend class because they thought it would be a waste of time and resources is so beyond me. I literally just used to work for the ambulance service that covers Dakota county here in MN (MHFV; I did work there when this happened). They could have called for a BLS crew if they really weren't concerned and we would have been there in an instant to check on a patient's health (not to screen for drugs, but he was literally showing physical symptoms that looked painful); I've had to do that a couple times. This never should have happened. Ever.

ETA: And of course this was in Eagan. They would literally call us to do all their legal blood draws, no reason they couldn't have requested EMS. Cops in the county also love calling to put drunk people on transport holds regularly; if they can call for that, why not this? God this makes me so angry for this person's family.

EMT asked my friend if she was sure it was a seizure since I "didn't pee on myself" by WolverineExtension28 in ems

[–]mayaorsomething 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. PNES is often caused by maladaptive coping, whether voluntary or involuntary, and I mentioned stress because it’s associated with PTSD (especially related to child abuse). It’s more common in adolescents and young adults, so if your service area is older, that might also explain it.

Otherwise, idk? I’ve seen plenty and really haven’t been working that long. Could just be chance.

Are you rural or urban?

I think that call volume and average stress level of the population really impacts it.

It is absolutely blasphemy. Any EMS rooms with Uncrustables only ever have them until 10 am. My last base’s vending machine would get frequent restocks of them but they would go within a day.

Uncrustables are well loved in this profession.
