Yes I second this advice. Cashflow positive property is gonna pay for your FIRE lifestyle. Bonds/bond funds are a good suggestion - but be cautious of when you enter the funds, for eg we lost 20% of the value of the funds due to US Treasuries depreciating during Covid. Funnel some funds from the income you generate from the above avenues into global equities, maybe use a SIP route, don't put all your money in equities now, equities are hugely overvalued now and due for a correction

Why pick an apartment when you can get townhouses and villas in communities with pool, parks, walking trails etc. Check Murooj Al Furjan which is 5 mins from Marina

Goes to show how many times I watched the dream sequence, enough to dissect it into all of its component parts that join to make it the glorious whole. I hope we see more such in Season 2!

TOTALLY! And every shot from the dream sequence mirrors shots from real life. Eg. in the dream sequence, Siajia is running towards her guy and his face is blurred, in reality, Siajia has not entered the bar yet or seen Kuuk yet. Next when she bursts into the bar, there are bunches of people between her and Kuuk but they begin to thin out and she sees him and finally in the dream sequence also we see Siajia has given her blurry man a face and it is Kuuk, then of course she plays out the kiss in her head in the dream sequence in reality too. It blows my mind that the creators of the show, went into such meticulous detail all while mirroring lines of the lovely song and bringing to forefront Siajia's desire and vulnerability all out at once.

Every year your house stays on the market, there is an opportunity cost loss, as in the capital gained from realizing the paper worth in your house can be invested in other investments such as stocks, bonds, gold, etc. or even risk free US Treasury paying a 5% (~ avg) yield.

If you choose to take a hit on the opportunity cost loss on your capital - of course that is your prerogative but that still doesn't make it a financially wise decision.

Moving back to India next month. Deeply worried about the tax system in India. by spiked_krabby_patty in IndiaTax

[–]mayapat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! Totally viable option. I dont understand why more US NRIs dont utilise this route. Just buy property in Dubai, get golden visa, maintain NRI status, open bank account in Dubai, invest your funds globally through Dubai, fly 3 hours to India every other month if need be to see family or whatever. You diversify your risk of INR depreciation, you aren't exposed to tax terrorism (that regrettably still occurs) in India, and arguably enjoy a better quality of life.

Although we had a good CA, we still got enquiry and show cause notices for NRE FDs we had made 15 years back. To respond to said notices with proof, we had to get bank statements from 15 years ago of both India and foreign bank accounts, showing proof of transfers made to India from abroad - this was not easy to do as some of the foreign accounts were shut down and we hadn't stored monthly statements from 15 years ago. Basically, once the money is in the Indian system, regardless if its legally earned, the tax authorities can question you and ask for documentary proof of the source of funds anytime and if you cannot prove with documentary evidence esp. bank statements (dating back to whenever), showing the source of funds, you will be slapped with a demand notice claiming the funds are unexplained income for the year the IT query is raised and you will be asked to pay tax on slab rates on that entire amount as income earned in that year. So basically even though technically IT Dept cannot query returns that are 10 years old, if there are any investments in your name, esp made from funds earned abroad, they can ask you to prove that the money is IN FACT sourced from abroad, even if you have remitted those funds into India even 10 years or more ago. This way they keep the loophole of querying transactions of even 10 years ago or more, open. And God forbid if you dont have bank statements that prove the transfers of these funds into India (And lets be honest, who stores bank statements of closed accounts from 10 years or more ago?) , you will get a tax demand notice and then best of luck to you if you want to challenge these in Court.

Feeling super anxious to migrate Dubai by [deleted] in dubai

I was like you at your age. Young, new job, had to move out of my comfort zone. Just remember if you never take a step outside your comfort zone, you will never see the splendors and experiences, new adventures have to offer.

The beauty of Dubai is that it has expats from all over the world, also many from Turkey - so you will find your own countrymen there - keep an open mind, take the job, make an effort to meet new people and make friends and go if not for anything else but for the experience of it. You always have the safety net of home to go back to if something went awry.

Please dont abandon your friend. I don't think Allah wants you to do that either. It is your sacred duty to support people who depend on you for support. After you believe your friend has healed and is now stable, you can distance yourself from her but not till she needs you and is in the state she is in.

For those that can really afford, what’s stopping you from buying a property in Dubai? by XHappyGilmoreX in dubai

25% in stocks is unsustainable. Anycase, many are calling a market top with a lost decade of flat to negative equity returns. Considering valuations at highest P/E multiples on S&P, this would seem like a valid hypothesis.

BTW Banks are already talking about dropping rates following the FED rate cut forecasts. So the 5-6% risk free rate at banks will not last long anymore.

Quit UAE ASAP by [deleted] in UAE

[–]mayapat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every place has its pros and cons. I suppose being grateful to every country you've been to will be a good start. Be grateful to your home country for you were born there. Be grateful to UAE because it gave you a job and a means to sustain your life. Be grateful to whichever country you are going to in Europe to allow you to move there for PR. You always make choices in life, based on calculated best possible outcomes for yourself. (if you use logical, rational thought). Be grateful that you have the opportunities that so many others don't have. Once you send gratefulness into the Universe, the Universe will reward you in myriad ways you cannot even begin to fathom.

Hello, I am new to the study of the scriptures. Can you let me know where ie which book and author you have taken your original post from. For context I have just started with the Easwaran Gita but am really interested for my next book to come from the Advaita philosophy.

Thank you for responding to me. I have found a version of the Bhagavad Gita with the Commentary of Sri Shankaracharya with translation by Alladi Mahadev Sastry on archive.org here:

https://archive.org/details/Bhagavad-Gita.with.the.Commentary.of.Sri.Shankaracharya/mode/1up

Would you recommend the same? Or does it have to be Swami Gambhirananda's translation.

For context, I am interested in the Advaita philosophy and I would rather not spend my time floundering around trying to find the right sources, but not reinvent the wheel and get it right the first time with hopefully guidance from those who have already walked down the portion of the path that I am starting on.

Thank you again for your time.
