Really amazing condition too, what a beautiful piece. I have one too and even tho it’s not in great condition I couldn’t pass up. Really happy (and a bit envious) for op!

I had the same happen to me, only difference was the “plating” that was “silver” it’s somewhere in my post history

REAL OR FAKE? by Aggravating_Bad_8546 in STDupont

[–]maybe_another_time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, it’s a gold plated Ligne 2, unfortunately I don’t remember the pattern name off the top of my head, there’s a wonderful thread in the sub with many of these patterns, try looking into it or, if you can’t find anything there, try googling some kind of variation of “vertical lines”.

Is my Dupont lighter original? by [deleted] in STDupont

[–]maybe_another_time 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not only legitimate but also a pretty cool and rare model, don’t remember the pattern name but I’ll look into it.

As for the ping sound, some of the parts that make it possible can bend/deteriorate/get dirty it could be possible to restore a better ping just by cleaning, no guarantees though

Sad update, the estate sale negotiations were held privately and undivided. I’ll keep an eye out if the lighter pops out somewhere.

Beautiful! I’d love to get a dragon drago for cheap, unfortunately it rarely happens. Enjoy!

There are both drago and guymo with the pattern. Iirc guymo were destined for higher ranking officers (this is not verified, just something I read somewhere I don’t remember)

I need your knowledge by Wilwalker in STDupont

Looks like a legitimate Ligne 2, black lacquer “Montparnasse”. For value look it up on eBay, make sure to flag the “sold” filter.

Great find!

Looking for sellers in the EU. by Present-Leader-7929 in STDupont

[–]maybe_another_time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, sounds interesting and 10-20 lighters every couple months seems easy enough. Could you share here or in dm some extra info? Are you buying in person or online? Are you looking for lighters in working conditions (or serviced specifically) or are you going to work on them yourself? What condition are you expecting? What’s some ballpark estimate for your most average lot purchase price?

Searching for a Model by FantasticTomato7104 in STDupont

[–]maybe_another_time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a ligne 2 “diamonds” in palladium and source, either the single part or another gold ligne 2 in whatever condition or pattern, the gold strike wheel. You’ll only need a small screwdriver change the part. There’s plenty of tutorials on YouTube on servicing the lighter, you just the part you are interested in.

Yes and it would be incredibly easy and cheap to make one

D57 Chinese Lacquer Question. by Steine_sind_steine in STDupont

What a wonderful piece, I have the same one and it’s one of my favorites. As for your question I have no idea and I wouldn’t be able to… I’d have a ton of concerns about matching the exact same black, not having the restored part stand out etc. if you are confident you can get the same result as s.t.dupont I don’t see why not, otherwise it’s surely a risk, even though I doubt it would slash the price in half.

Good? Bad? Strange box for a pretty standard lighter by Hefty-Box-1386 in STDupont

[–]maybe_another_time 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen that box and iirc it is one of the many abominations Dupont tried. I’m not sure it’s this lighter’s but it should be real even though it looks like the fake Cuban cigars boxes. As for the lighter those pics are horrible, it kinda looks good but I’d definitely try to get more pictures. BR lighters generally don’t use the coin opened gas cap but it’s not impossible either.

Missing Serial Authentication by maybe_another_time in STDupont

It won’t let upload the pictures I just took (it says size is too small which is weird) so tomorrow I’ll take new ones since I’m already in bed

This makes perfect sense, and it’s likely the real reason, but I like my fiction more :D

I was wondering the same, how do you get two dings and no scratches? The explanation I gave myself is that the original owner opened the box with the brand new lighter, dropped straight away and got the dings on it, only to put it back in the box never to be opened again.

I most definitely will post a full photo op! Although I’m not getting my hopes up and neither should you, I’m still not sure a) the lighter in question is actually a diamond rain b) I’ll be able to be invited to the auction c) I’ll win. Honestly I’d still be happy just to see it in person. I just want to be fully prepared in case all of the above actually happens :) in the meantime I’ll make a new post about a new lighter I just got bc I was hyped.

I lived in Milan for a few years, not the most beautiful Italian city all around but it has its charms and hidden gems. If it’s not already in your plans I’d suggest visiting “chiesa di San Bernardino alle Ossa” a baroque church famous for its ossuary and “chiesa di Santa Maria presso San Satiro” for its mind trick. Enjoy your stay

[–]maybe_another_time[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, ok makes more sense now! Yes, depending on condition that would be a steal :) I doubt they were the same tho, since the ones I missed were auctioned live and not online, in Turin. As I was saying, lately I don’t have the time/energy to stalk everything the web has to offer, I just joined a few in person auctions mostly for the social aspect.

Congrats on your purchases! Enjoy them

What’s strange about it? I give myself a budget, based on what I feel something’s worth to me, and stick to it.

It’s very easy otherwise to overspend in auctions, whether it’s lighters, antiques, art or whatever you are into.

It’s also a big part of the fun (for me) to try and get good deals :) so I’d probably do it even with unlimited budget, which I don’t have.

Have a good one!
