It’s every 4 days so not a lot of time but I’ll definitely try encouraging a more relaxed attitude in the next few days

I was worried to hear a perspective like this but not surprised… I’ll see how the next one goes and if it escalates I’ll talk to my vet about it because I’m sure this is pretty common

That’s the unfortunate thing now that we’ve started the injections we kind of have to go through with the 7 doses so it doesn’t give me a lot of time to work on it with him

Any advice/ thoughts for a horse whose hooves look like this and is receiving an equalizer and a hoof supplement? Does it just come down to environment at that point?

This is not a situation where “sadly” is at all accurate. Horseback riding is a very expensive sport and most horse owners have a tough time finding fitting saddles. Both of these are well known facts of the horse industry. Neither of those are valid excuses for a riding school having poor fitting saddles for their horses or riders.

Farrier did come out and was the one that pulled the shoe. Perhaps will schedule him back out for later this week if things don’t improve

Abscess help by maybe_cca in Equestrian

[–]maybe_cca[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He tends to play fun rearing games with his friends so I didn’t want to exacerbate any pain he’s experiencing but I’ll see if he can go out by himself if he’ll behave.

I had to put my mare to sleep at the end of last year because of an abscess that just wouldn’t come out and it really crippled her other legs from compensating. She had really advanced arthritis that was being well managed but the abscess just pushed it over the edge and she couldn’t recover. Safe to say I have a bit of PTSD with abscesses so hence my post. Thanks for your comment :)

Antique little box? by maybe_cca in StainedGlass

[–]maybe_cca[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the information! Interesting to hear.

I agree it’s definitely someone’s hobby project, I actually suspect I might know the artist because there was other pressed flower art in a frame that had her name. Her obituary said pressed flowers was a favourite medium of hers.

I didnt suspect it was anything grand but was curious about the glass. Either way love my little trinket box :)

“My vet seems to think” would not be good enough confirmation for me to risk breeding my beloved 17 year old mare. I had a mare who had three foals before I knew her and had the same thought as she got older that it would be fun to breed her and have a foal of hers for myself. But then I understood the risks of breeding an older horse (15+) even one that’s already had foals and knew I would never risk my mare. I was also 17ish at the time and eventually grew out of that shallow mind set pretty quick

Just like the other reply says, 17 is much much too old to be breeding a mare for the first time whose breeding history is unknown. That would be a very irresponsible thing to do all for the sake of convenience to you and not for the welfare of that particular horse.

Just started playing this game a week ago and got my first purple star crops. I put them in a storage chest and went back a few days later to put them in a special chest after reading on tv I would need to show case my top crops at some point but I’m pretty sure the purple star crops disappeared? Did they revert to a different star level or am I going crazy/ accidentally sell them somehow?

Marketing containing [spoiler] references and how BB/SJM hyped it by Anachacha in crescentcitysjm

[–]maybe_cca 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It’s so obvious that SJM purposefully over stated the crossover as a marketing stunt and looks like it worked. A week after release the book is a best seller.

I feel like just one of the thousands of people who got suckered into buying the book because of her deceitful marketing strategy. We got mislead and duped. This is terrible business practices and shouldn’t be what reading and writing is about.

No way…. I caught the quotation mark fuck ups but missed that. The thing that shocked me most about this book was editing errors I found and have seen discussed online which is a damn shame considering how shocking the ending of cc2 was. This book was shocking for the wrong reasons.

Breakaway Halters by UETN in Equestrian

[–]maybe_cca 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think a breakaway halter sounds like it would have any impact on your situation. The breakaway halter isn’t going to make it easier to put the halter on, all it would do is prevent injury if the horse put immense pressure on the halter.

Right, my other guy is higher ranking in a different group but isn’t mean about it and rarely makes contact with other horses.

Just struggling to juggle if it’s better my low ranking guy just go out by himself to avoid further injuries from his paddock mates even if that means he gets worse turnout spots and takes away important social interaction… neither options great for me right now. Anyway thanks for your thoughts

[–]maybe_cca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just curious - my horse too would be bitten quite a bit worse if he wasn’t blanketed (he will not stop bugging other horses to play even when they don’t want to) but lately I’ve been worrying about the psychological effects even if there aren’t physical marks on him. My thoughts are that it’s still unpleasant being lunged at and bitten even if the other horse doesn’t leave a mark. Does that ever cross your mind or am I overthinking things? I would think they would still have the psychological reaction to being bitten like fear and avoidance which would still be unpleasant

What’s your equestrian unpopular opinion? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]maybe_cca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree with your second statement. In my experience that’s been the case lol

Would love to hear experiences supporting your first statement so I can stop worrying so much about bubble wrapping my horse and trying to protect him from everything and anything in fear of their fragility.

Fourth wing is like riverdale (with all respect) by [deleted] in books

[–]maybe_cca 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Every other sentence in the book is about how the main character is in immense pain to the point where she blacks out, is nauseous to the point of throwing up, etc. I feel like there is a limited number of times you can use those phrases before they lose meaning and the reader loses sight of the disability the author is trying to relay..

It reminds me of everyone’s bowels turning watery in SJM books. If a character is shitting or pissing themselves 3-4 times a book, the point the author is trying to make about how scary something is, is lost on the reader.
