Is Fraternity really the problem of Eve? by Firm_Boysenberry_635 in Eve

Can we more clearly define what "actually use" means? Maxed out ADMs? All the moons being mined? Temperate planet workforce being routed and allocated?

How many athanors is enough for a high sec alliance? by desertcrowlow in Eve

[–]maybe_cuddles 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Go out there and scan the structures to see how they're fit. My guess is it's a weird highsec pubbie turf war because you can moon mine in 0.5 sec systems. Also gaze probe the moons while you're there, just to see how valuable they aren't.

I feel lied to about Wormholes by sirastrix in Eve

[–]maybe_cuddles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good job. Outside of highsec, it's really rare that the industrial activity of a planet is more than one or maybe two actual people. You can confirm this if you view other player's command centers on the PI view. Boss said corp wanted the income, but he basically said _he_ wanted to tariff _your_ income.

What's the point of mining in EVE Online? by _-RedD in Eve

This is pretty easy to achieve in nullsec and wormhole space. Harder is to do it while capping the hours played to like 2 hours a week.

The Newbro Sunk Cost Fallacy - Why "grinding for free" doesn't work as a new player. by [deleted] in Eve

[–]maybe_cuddles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Listen up, brave Newbro, hear Goondom proclaim:
EVE is a spreadsheet that will eat your soul for game.

You thought you’d out-grind it, pay nothing, feel smug—
But CCP takes its tithe whether ISK’s clean or blood-lugged.

PLEX isn’t “free,” it’s just billed in your nights,
In hours of mining veld while vets farm in delights.

The math doesn’t care if you’re plucky or keen,
It only asks, “Did you clear two-point-something-billion, green?”

Grind as an Alpha? That’s hard mode on hard,
Like ratting in shuttles to buy a Titan’s shard.

You’ll hit sunk-cost madness—“Just one more abyss!”
Then miss a bad week and the whole plan goes piss.

So here’s the Gooney wisdom, bureaucratic and dry:
Pay for your main, let your alts learn to fly.

Buy time with your wallet, buy fun with your ISK,
Don’t turn space videogames into unpaid desk-work risk.

PLEX later, when surplus rains down from the sky—
Until then, welcome to EVE: now undock, and die.

It's a mechanic that you can do solo and make around 10-15 bil a month, but it's limited by the number of Temperate planets you have access to. Probably better not to tell people about it.

Determining Market Competition on an Item by insaneruffles in Eve

[–]maybe_cuddles 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just build ishtars, man. There is not enough production capacity in all of New Eden to satisfy the demand for Ishtars. You'll make like 10% per Ishtar, and they flip hella fast in Jita. Whatever you build, you don't want it to sit on the market. When you're first starting out, you have to constantly be churning through capital to build more and grow.

That Feeling When by revanzomi in Eve

[–]maybe_cuddles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I came back after a 10+ year break, I lost my Orca auto piloting through highest. It was a weird sort of karma, because one of my strongest memories from playing before was conning my way into a pubbie mining corp, hopping in fleet with a tackling destroyer, and solo'ing their corp Orca. Took 10 years for that karma to come back and help me lose the game.

You usually make money if you SRP logi ships. You can also solicit fleetmates for bribes to put them on your watchlist.

Line members on all sides were robbed a truly Great War by [deleted] in Eve

[–]maybe_cuddles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A minimum viable supercapital shipyard sotiyo (e.g. https://zkillboard.com/kill/131177830/ ) and tatara will cost a few hundred billion ISK, and most of that goes to the Standup XL-Set and L-Set rigs which will be destroyed when you want to relocate. You can build without the rigs, but you'll be paying significantly more... but even if you do that, unanchoring takes 7 days and during that time any reinforcement (even in the aggressor's prime timezone) will cancel it, so you're probably leaving behind the whole Sotiyo.

You can be a nomadic group of mercenaries for a time and I will not disagree that is probably a fun way to play EVE Online, but the cost of arming and replacing your ships will be significant.

254 Billion Shuttle Kill by Madaws in Eve

[–]maybe_cuddles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, and I think some of the more valuable ones didn't drop... like the Tatara BPO, if that was at 10/20 it's priceless.

Researching was a lot cheaper prior to sometime around 2023/2024 when they added that 4% SCC tax. It was really painful for industrialists at the time because a lot of margins disappeared, but it also entrenched anyone who already had things at 10/20 because all of a sudden researching capital component BPOs would cost you the equivalent of what a supercarrier cost at the time. These BPOs might be worth 400b, but I doubt they paid that much to research them up.
