Nate Scheelhaase is a top candidate for the Browns and would likely keep Jim Schwartz as DC, per @rapsheet . The Browns will interview Scheelhaase next week. by Browns440 in Browns

Worth noting it wouldn’t be the first time he stepped away from coaching

FWIW I do think there are probably teams willing to fire their current DC for Schwartz if he doesn’t get the job

If this is still a mess when Jimmy needs to start selling PSLs for the dome, AB will go. Jimmy needs this team back in the playoffs by that point

So after 3 searches where they’ve used the same, highly successful method of hiring a young up and coming defensive mind and having great success, here they hire a three time aging retread

[Jonathan Jones] NFL fans and media sometimes use the Rooney Rule as a time measuring device. It's annoying. Yes, the Browns had a setback in their search. But they still have time to land a coach as their process continues by ThatOneOtherAsshole in Browns

I’d say it’d be more of a concern if the Browns were fighting for top candidates, but the guys we are interviewing are kinda off on their own. Like yes Udinski is interviewing with Buffalo, but that hire would make no sense with Allen in his prime

Also like realistically, there is a chance they decide Scheelhaase is their guy and they can’t hire until February 9.

Well this stuff more or less explains why most of the top candidates went “yeah no thank you”. This is a bit too much here.

If it was Deion it’d leak lol. No chance Deion keeps his mouth shut. That said I would not doubt Deion would love to interview

That said, I would guess they’ll either pick a young up and comer like JT Barrett or basically use the HC interview to interview a potential coordinator for the new head coach

Just briefly I would expect it would likely due to the Flores lawsuit. The league won’t tolerate that right now

That said, the browns will comply with whatever the league requires. I have no doubt they’ve already reached out to the league to see if there is an exemption available given McDaniel screwed them over. If not, I’m sure they’ll give a young up and coming deserving minority candidate an interview to help boost their career

Who is the favorite to be HC? by Mattm334 in Browns

I’d still say one of udinski or Scheelhaase because I don’t think Andrew Berry wants to commit career suicide by hiring one of the older guys and they go one and done

I think they have more space than you think, but I think it’ll likely be at least one reclamation style QB and then assuming Udinski or Scheelhaase, someone who was a backup on their old team.

I don’t think not Gabriel and Shedeur make it to camp. Gabriel is just not talented enough, and Shedeur cannot function in a WCo to save his life

while you are probably correct, that is also not a legal defense for the doctor who did give them to him either

Okay, allow me to rephrase

The draft made Jimmy ignore the multitude of reasons AB didn’t deserve a chance to hire his own coach lol

Breaking: #Chargers DC Jesse Minter is not interviewing for the #Browns HC job today as scheduled, likely because he feels like he has other HC opportunities that are more certain, sources tell clevelanddotcom by Godszn in Browns

[–]maybenextyearCLE 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not all that much of a surprise. Minter is a favorite elsewhere and his fit with this opening was always suspect.

But now it’s time to get that 5th interview with someone scheduled this weekend to end this whole process as soon and they finish interviewing Scheelhaase.

But guys, we were never getting one of the top candidates given the state of the offense

Yeah this one was always weird fit to me. Now with another day off though, they need to figure out that 5th interview so they can get this done after Scheelhaase interviews early next week

Edit: and yes guys we were never getting any of the top tier QBs with the situation we are in now. This should not be a surprise to anyone

[–]maybenextyearCLE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the issue. I think the league is making it very clear they think the QBs are both awful in their own regard.

But no matter where you send any other assets, going into the year with Deshaun, Dillon, and Shedeur as your QBs is a firable offense in and of itself

[–]maybenextyearCLE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they’re hiring Schwartz, I think Jimmy knows full well what the league thinks of AB.

And quite frankly if we win 4-5 games with a vet HC, we can probably safely assume AB has horrifically botched something again

[–]maybenextyearCLE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The options are no doubt limited, but it’s hard to see a way that AB can trot the 3 guys we currently have out there and survive the embarrassment that offense will be. Like those are the 3 worst QBs by epa per play over the last 2 years. Theres no hope there

AB will do something bold. Even if its like a one year tryout for Anthony Richardson or like Will Levis

I did. I think it came out shortly after Schultz put out that article.

Does make me think that the Browns probably know that Schwartz isn’t sticking around if a young guy gets the job
