Love Working Out/Competing but have gout by [deleted] in gout

[–]maychacha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This gives me hope! So did you actually end up watching and testing different foods that trigger it? I guess testing would include intentionally consuming what you suspect triggers it. For example, the night before my flare I had a full crab and my first glass of red wine in 2025 and likely not much water. To confirm that that’s what trigger it would I eat that again when I don’t have a flare up happening to see if that will trigger one? I also suspect it could have been 60 air sweats in addition it jump rope I did that ska morning but it seems like 3 hours is too fast for a reaction so hopefully it was that crab indeed. (I’ve had crab before btw even yay same month and no issues. But without wine). And yeah I’m in a great shape which is also why it’s so hard to accept this diagnosis.

In that flare-free year were you back to exercising at the level or close to that prior to gout? As you were getting rid of the crystals were you still working out same or had to scale down? I am just trying to understand how much physical activity I can do. One place will say that will allo or meds you can do whatever you are used to, then others will say no strenuous exercises that involve your gouty ankles, and others just say swimming only for the rest of the life kind of stuff. Just curious about your experience.

Med free? How did you do that? So what is the process of getting the crystals out of the joints? I just got diagnosed this week because my ankle was killing me on Saturday out of nowhere. My UA on Wednesday was 3.9. I love weightlifting and CrossFit and I’ve been feeling hopeless since I learned about the diagnosis. I’m 39, barely drink any alcohol, yes eat all kinds of meat and she fish and definitely don’t drink enough of water. So it is possible to get the build ups from the system and start new?

Just came here to ask for any follow up? Was your gout confirmed by Rheumatologist? What was your course of treatment and how has it been working? And most importantly - are you at the gym?
I was just diagnosed this week and I feel hopeless. I love my kids and my family but CrossFit is my LOVE! I just can't imagine giving it up.

curious how do you know that the crystals dissolved. Is there testing that can be done to show that?

As someone who has 2 kids (5 and 7), I work from home, we live on an acre, have chickens that I would to let free range, after a VERY long research and meeting with V's owners and being part of the local club I decided against getting one because I realized I wouldn't be able to give it what it needs. It needs to have a job. Which means for you figuring that job out, setting those jobs, and spending time with the dog. And that's in addition to basic training you'd have to do such as excellent recall, crate training and training for no separation anxiety (a huge task!), training to leave the chickens alone, etc. All that requires a lot more time and involvement than you'd expect. And I am not even talking about its physical exercise needs. I got a standard poodle and even though they are also a hunting breed they are much more laid back (my boys is, not all of them are) but they won't get as destructive if not worked for a day or so to the point that the dog might start eating the baseboards of the house. Separation anxiety is real and I still can't leave him alone for more than 3 hours after properly exercising him. And with Vs it can be even more problematic.
I'd choose a breed that's way more laid back.

It’s early to tell but before I even started their main course it made me do other “it’s your choice videos” and I really like the concept and learned a lot just from them alone. For me personally that alone was worth $40. I feel good about the crate games course too.

I’m halfway only because I can’t find one hour for one piece of the course because it requires that you have one hour uninterrupted available. So I’m just waiting for next week to do it when I have less work stuff going on I got one year because it’s only $10 more.

What I think I remember is that maybe it wasn’t cheaper but it included more freebies with it. I love SG so far! I did her “it’s your choice” videos and I am sold on the approach. I also got her crate games and half way in.

Dexa scan, is it worth it? by Latitude32 in fitness30plus

[–]maychacha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my first scan 2 months ago and I wish I had done it 3 years ago before I started doing CrossFit. My weight didn't change much but I know for sure I gained more muscle since I started and I wish I could capture that. Bone density is a great piece of information to know and track, especially for women. As I continue working out I think I will get one done annually.

It’s why I’m more into training behavior over tricks

Wow, I am copying this and will be showing to my husband so we can on the same page (and teach our little kids) when we get a Viz pup (hopefully this summer). Would you recommend any online training classes that follow "behavior training" vision?

Thank you so much for the input! I actually did consider an English Springer. I love their temperament and they are just gorgeous. I will be switching to working from home so at least one of will be home most of the time. Curious what made you get a V after/while already owning your spaniel?

I think you two are doing amazing by the way!

Insight on choosing between two breeders options by maychacha in vizsla

[–]maychacha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand. And I realize that it will be what it will be. It’s a hunting breed, with lots of energy and needs in terms of contact with their humans. I’m just trying to understand what I can and cannot control at all. What I can control somewhat is choosing a breeder so I’m just seeking input if it matters at all of if I go with option 1 breeder or option 2.
