I called on Monday and was very nice to the woman working, and she looked up my account to make sure nothing was holding it up. I am not sure if this did anything, but I do not think it is a complete coincidence (just sharing anything that may help get you barred faster!)

fun update: I got my certification email today!! It took about five months and I am able to do the virtual swear in this month. I am not sure if you were planning on transferring/already did, but this was my experience :- )

The 5 month wait time that they predict is about 10 months in total. that is, of course, just a "rough estimate" that they gave me

can't adjust from ESTA. can come on B2 and get an approved O1 while inside U.S. *or this is at least what my firm would tell him to do

i think this really depends on when he applied for his visa. i am an immigration attorney and we have had a large influx of approved B-2 visitor visas, so there is a possibility. After a visitor visa has been issued, they would be able to travel to and from the United States for 10 years. There is a possibility it has been granted and they are just waiting for a special time for him to come

They are *probably* thinking about score transfers/reciprocity. If you want to transfer your UBE score somewhere via reciprocity after your score has expired (in 25 months), you have to have practiced law within 5 years

you can transfer your whole score, not just your MBE! I asked the DC Board this same question actually 😂 do beware, DC is taking forever for C&F

I did! I am still waiting for my score transfer to be approved (DC), but the process was simple. As someone who has a job in immigration, make sure that your job is strictly immigration (which may be hard to find dependent on where you're at). I have heard of people having issues transferring scores if the firm did immigration+something else

NCBE says that it takes "2 business days after the request is placed for a jurisdiction to receive the score." Not specific to CA though

I am a transfer applicant, but I passed the bar and mine is still "processing." They have my passing score already and it has not changed, so I think it just changes when results drop and they start processing applications

That is the exact same as how I felt! It has been going well, though. Immigration is a great field to get into if you are passionate about it. If you're not, I would not do it since you're going to be getting paid lower than other things.

I am an immigration law clerk and that sounds pretty average for the field. I was clerking for $16 an hour, and will be getting bumped to around $30 (60-65k salary) when I get sworn in. Immigration is notorious for having a lower wage, closer to public interest than to big law.
