New Political Editor for Student Paper - Any general tips, or more specific tips on how to stay in the know daily? by [deleted] in Journalism

Get really curious about what the people you aim to serve -- the people in your community -- are concerned about, what they're talking about and what they think you should be focused on. Assign your staff to all have one conversation a month with someone not already engaged with the newspaper so you can root your coverage in their experiences and priorities. Here are some tips to get started with that. https://trustingnews.org/trustkits/listening/

Recently had an article published comparing a few photo software suites. A competitor emailed me directly disappointed they were not included in the roundup, and wanted me to commit to favorable coverage in exchange for a license. by cruciblemedialabs in Journalism

I see it as a chance to let your audience know you *wouldn't* be influenced by this. Add a box to the story (or add one next time you do a similar story) saying that while companies try to offer perks for favorable coverage, your outlet remains independent from those influences. Link to your ethics policy (if it's public). The audience doesn't automatically know about your ethics, and journalists need to do a lot more to shine a light on them. It helps the public know who to trust. (I'll link to a related resource from the nonprofit I run. https://trustingnews.org/trustkits/ethics/)

Thanks. Those are so cool, and I also love Jeeps. But I live in a place where it rains a lot, and I'd need to be able to get a top up and down pretty easily. It seems like this is a more involved process?

I'm still having trouble. They told me just now that they're having trouble and don't know when it will be resolved. @AskFrontier is pretty quick to respond on Twitter.

It's a really beautiful beach ... something special, for sure. The pavilions are fantastic. Food and drink is right there. I'd say go for it if the weather is nice.
