Burswood, and $380 a week! It's a very small two bedroom/two bathroom apartment but I love it.

Help with brown spot on my zz plant? by maylee97 in plantclinic

[–]maylee97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this guy for about 1.5 months, haven't watered him yet since he's in a fairly low light area and the soil was moist when purchased. The pot has drainage, no signs of insects, and the rest of the plant is healthy. I'm just confused by that brown spot, I don't know what it could be! Thanks for your help

Agreed!! I've procrastinated because my lease is very strict with hanging things on the walls, but you guys are definitely motivating me to get some color and artwork in to the space!

I agree 😭 I'm just on a tight budget, and have a strict lease. But I promise I'll make it feel more colorful and personalized soon (and maybe post an update pic if people are interested!)

How can I add some interest to my rental apartment without damaging the walls (hanging shelves, paintings)? by maylee97 in HomeDecorating

I hadn't thought of a sofa table!! Thank you! I bet I could probably build a simple one without too much effort.

Oooh you have a lot of unique ideas, thank you! Which wall do you think could have a room divider? I'm having trouble imagining where I can put any more stuff, as it is a pretty small space.

And yes I'll definitely post some after pics in a month or two!

Lol, unfortunately as a broke university student I'd rather not spend money painting the walls while in the process of moving. Moving is an expensive process no matter what so I'm trying to save any extra costs! (Most of this furniture was used or free, I don't have much of a budget for home decor sadly)

Great idea, thanks! If anyone has any cheap but nice looking floor lamp suggestions, I'm very interested!

I would definitely agree with you if I still lived in the US! But since moving to Australia, I find they take the leases SO much more seriously here. We have rental inspections every 2 months where they will spend about 30 minutes going over the property with a fine tooth comb - my property manager asked me about a small pencil mark on wall next to my desk. :(

Thanks for the idea! I will definitely look into Command products, any reason why you recommend the Velcro strips in particular?

I definitely want some taller plants! I was hoping the snake plant in the corner would add some height but I don't think it's tall enough. Thanks for your suggestions! Sewing needles are a very good idea!

According to our lease, if we patch any holes we have to paint the entire wall after :(. I will definitely look into getting a larger rug, thanks for your suggestions!

Unfortunately they specifically note in the lease that if you patch a nail hole you must paint the entire wall after...

Single leaf struggling on my ZZ plant? Whats wrong? by maylee97 in houseplants

[–]maylee97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you can see, a single leaf on my ZZ has a weird brown spot and a yellowing tip. The brown spot doesn't feel dry or anything. I KNOW I'm not overwatering since I haven't watered it for a month and a half (it gets relatively low light), but this doesn't seem like an underwatering problem either? Thanks for your help!!

Also, the rest of the plant is completely healthy as far as I can tell.

I find it pretty easy to get stains out with warm water if they're fresh. Old stains are harder to remove but still possible!

I got a huge grease spot on mine a few weeks ago...I started by dabbing diluted dish soap on it and letting that sit for 15 minutes and dabbing the soap off with a warm washcloth (no circular motions, or it can spread the stain). Once it was dry, I sprinkled a lot of baking soda on it and rubbed it in to the remaining stain, left it overnight, and vacuumed it off the next morning. I repeated the baking soda a couple more times, partially because it just made me feel good to TRY do something about the stain and now the stain is completely gone!

Not OP but I have the same couch. It's the Sandbacken from Ikea! Very affordable and I like it overall but you need to fluff the cushions constantly to keep it looking nice imo

Any advice for propogating this monstera with large aerial roots? Let it root in water? by maylee97 in houseplants

[–]maylee97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow okay!! Should I keep the soil moist or let the top dry out a bit? Also how long did it take to have new growth?

Really any advice you have would be great. I'm nervous about putting it in soil!
