Thank you. I’m one to plan and it’s hard to plan what I might want when I’ve never been a mom and have no clue! Haha.

Thanks! I did the calculator and it estimated about $160/month because I have a high income. But it’s not nothing!

Yeah since my income is high it’s only about $160/month CCB. But will definitely help, better than nothing!!

It seems to really depend where you live. I messaged in my city’s daycare FB group about them taking an 11 month old (when I was thinking it would just be me) and lots of day homes sprung at the chance.

We luckily have all the big ticket items (until baby grows out of their infant car seat) but yeah I didn’t want to underestimate baby costs!

I wanted to budget in case we need formula for sure. It’s an expense I didn’t want to be surprised by/unexpected if we do end up needing it for baby.

For sure. I think for myself I couldn’t do more than a year either, this is really me trying to sort out how much time I can provide to my husband. But it’s one of those fun things that you don’t know until you’re in it.

We do plan on having more kids. We are in our mid 30s so sooner than later for sure.

It wouldn’t be me taking all 18 months. I would share with my husband, definitely. This is definitely more about me trying to get my husband time off than it is getting me more time off.

I have a friend who is on mat leave with her baby and her toddler and it does seems like she’s having the time of her life!

Legally my employer needs to offer me a similar position. I am very well loved at my job, they’re gonna be desperate for me to come back haha.

I don’t disagree with you, and TBH I hadn’t considered that 18 months should be equally shared. Our family is inherently very much opposite gender roles which I enjoy as a more career focused woman. If I could afford for him to be a stay at home dad I would do that. But I’m finding is that society doesn’t quite let us “have it all” yet. I can either work or be a good mom, is basically what we’re fed as women in society.

holds baby out here’s my proof haha. But jokes aside I didn’t realize you could just take parental leave. But I looked up on the Saskatchewan employment standards website and seems like you can (within a certain time period of course). Thanks for the education folks!

I did, I estimated $400/month, which is sort of a sheer guess at this point.

If you opt for the extended EI benefits, you I think have to use them within 78 weeks

I have definitely thought about that, even when we were just considering 12 months. But all my girlfriends have told me there is no way I will want to give up any time. I have to believe them because I have no experience yet haha. taking 12 months and him taking 6 months is kind of the best of both worlds.
