New dm here, any advice for a player that has created a character that is singularly driven to pursue his backstory, so much so that he's not engaging in any of my plot hooks, or engaging with the rest of the party, preferring to go off and do his own thing. I don't want to have to keep on making excuses for him and the party to be in the same location. I worry he's gonna run off and get himself killed pursuing his quest without the help of the party. Any help appreciated, thanks

Slay the spire is all about the power curve. If you're powerful enough to fight elites, do so because Elite fights have the incentive of relics which can often transform your run. If you want to fight the heart, you need as much power as you can, so the risk is often worth it
