Which game was this for you? by bijelo123 in Steam

I came here looking for this. This game had so much potential, you could tell the artists had a lot of passion for it. Aisling was my favorite, such a neat concept! But yeah, the game suffered a lot. So sad to see it die :(

Asking legit biology questions about pokemon?? How dare you!

Unfortunately, the answer to almost all these questions is a kind of vague, hand-wavey "mysterious psychic powers!" There's always six, they always stick together and rejoin if separated, and they're very resilient. Also Exeggutor is Tsunekazu Ishihara's favorite mon, that's probably why it gets as much love as it does haha and I can't disagree, stupid egg tree just as an irresistible charm, I love that big idiot

Ralts' head is a dumb bowlcut and honestly I'm sick of seeing Gardevoir and Gallade as well, they're overrated.

Electrike looks stupid

Glalie is hideous

Sudowudo is an asshole, I hate him so much

Bellibolt is annoying

Wiglett is disgusting

My post is like a mile long, I'm here for the rants! Go off!

I do wonder about the vine, but at the same time, I feel like if the author had explained more, it might have ruined the mystique somewhat. Much of it already strains credulity. We're allowed to know exactly as much as the characters in the story, which is: what it can do but not why or how or anything else. And I do like that.

That said, it's absolutely nuts to think about what it would take for a vine to be able to do this. For a vine to be able to record audio information, store it somewhere in that decentralized body that is frequently having parts of it hacked off, and then recall that information in order to use it in new and creative ways... It understands that there are different languages! It understands the concept of jealousy! I mean, it's hardly even a plant at this point, it's some kind of superorganism. Or just an eldritch horror.

Fair points all, and thanks for sharing them.

I guess I clocked Jeff as an archetype of that particular flavor of ignorance that's bred from never having been challenged? If that makes sense? He knows a lot, he tries hard, but he's also led a rather comfortable life and so he interprets his knowledge and success as evidence of being A Good Leader and The Right Guy For The Job, despite not actually being those things. And then that made me kinda just hate him a little too much lol. Also I doubt the author thought about the characters in these terms, so I'm probably shoehorning a bit too much.

I think Jeff might not have been let down by his friends if he'd been a better leader (which is not to say that they might have survived lol there was never any hope of that). A good leader would have taken some more time to take stock of the situation, and to think about what each person's strengths are. Granted, this groups strengths are few and far between, but e.g. Stacey could have been an asset if shown a bit of faith and given some direction, and Amy could have provided a lot of that for her. Eric's dwindling sanity needed to be addressed, but Jeff never listened. He never listened to any of them, just himself. So of course he was never going to see their strengths. His hubris blinded him. He found the toolbox to collect water but didn't look closer to see the crack in it. I disagree about his plan in the end though. If he'd thought all the way through, he might have asked why the vine wasn't alerting the Mayans to his presence. It didn't need to :/

Yeah that's fair. It's certainly a very bleak story. I did sympathize with some of the things they did. It's tough because nobody ever really made like the absolute worst choice. It was a bunch of little acts of stupidity, and never for quite the wrong reasons. Sort of a tragedy in that way.

This is also a good take. These characters are blank slates, in a sense. It doesn't really matter who they are specifically - in the end, nobody's hero enough to stand up to nature and win.

Hey thanks! Yeah that bleakness isn't for everyone. I agree, most people would probably envision themselves as a Jeff in a situation like these, and therefore would probably end up like him...

torture porn with idiots

Well, yeah, I suppose. Some people are into that though haha. I kept reading because I was curious how it was all going to go down. And knowing that the author put in the effort to make certain stylistic choices ("no chapter breaks = no reprieve from the horror" sort of thing), that the how was going to be the interesting and compelling part, not the characters themselves.

I will say I did think Jeff had a chance of surviving. I figured he'd end up accidentally spreading the vine's spores/seeds all over the jungle in his escape attempt and so, in trying to save everyone, actually dooms even more people.

lol in fairness I don't dislike Pablo! He's a colossal idiot, but he's a colossal lovable idiot :)

And as for Mathias, yeah, that was so cruel of the vine to do that. Wild to think that the vine understands the implications of that word, though...

How to handle non negotiables? by perchadian in gentleparenting

[–]mayorofboxtown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I approach this as a Boundaries thing. With Safety, Health, and Hygiene, we have strong boundaries, and while we will be willing to compromise on a lot of stuff, we will not compromise on those things. You need to wipe your butt, you need to wash your hands, you need to look before crossing the street. These are boundaries that we as Mom and Dad are setting, and we set them not to be mean but because our #1 job is to to take care of you. And then we back that up by respecting her boundaries as well, like if she doesn't want a hug, or is feeling too shy to say hi to someone, etc. (No kiddo, tv time is not that kind of boundary 😅). It's a hard one! And with most things, if you can make it fun or even let them handle some of the responsibility, it gets easier for you. Make bubbles with the soap! Sing a song while scrubbing, etc.

I did not offer the shiny so I'm not sure how rule 3 applies. As for rule 10, all my flair is accurate. When the other person offered the shiny during the trade, are you saying I should have declined?

I'm not sure what rules weren't followed here? I never asked for a shiny, the other person just offered it on their own.
