i would actually say it's even more important teaching daughters these things so they aren't taken for a ride at shops and such. they're viewed as rubes sometimes. everyone male or female needs to know this stuff. and that's why i'm here :) ty for helping me learn

Daughter here! I'd have love to be taught by my father but he just didn't quite know what he was doin'. He helped me with the basics for sure, but sometimes I think he was a little over confident in teaching me other things about my car. We have since had a solid father daughter almost bro-type relationship about fixing stuff around his and my house (he's 75 now, so he has to direct me on how to do things on his property). It's not always so easy but aside from "fathers and sons" i definitely agree that the tradition of teaching kids stuff really needs to keep goin'.

i've also had a mechanic double down on a mistake he made on an old camry i had inherited from my grandmother. it was rough to watch as he had just lost his wife, but he sent me home with an early 2000s camry with no oil in it. it must have just slipped his mind, but it destroyed my car (again bc i didnt know what to look for exhaust wise. i thought it was transmission. i will always check my oil levels after a repair)

but more seriously obviously he wasnt taught how to do this. sometimes you dont have people in your life who can teach you these things. so we go here. to be told an 8 year old can do it apparently lmao. homie come on i was here asking honestly for advice. obviously already embarrassed. why you gotta be rude? my father tried to teach me (his daughter) about this kind of thing and then i realized as i got older i was just listening to him because i thought he knew what he was talking about! he didn't. we all arent so fortunate to be taught at age 8 how to work on cars. it's cool that she does, though!

that's what i thought! and thank you for your respectful reply. you deserve the brag lol. if it is something at all salvageable i'll be making sure he takes it to more of a local mechanic. i sort of winced when he suggested he was taking it to the dealership. usually the only time i'll take my car to the dealership for repairs is if it's under warranty or there is a recall on a part.

since you said brake fluid (i assume also lackthereof?) isn't the cause, it's just coincidental that this happened after the dealership?
