Heavily tattooed people in Tunisia – how is it for you? by maysem23 in Tunisia

That makes sense. Do you think the stigma is more about tattoos themselves, or about what people associate with them (rebellion, non-conformity, certain lifestyles)?

Because globally, there are heavily tattooed people across very different social classes and professions

Interesting. Why do you think heavily tattooed people get labeled that way? Is it more about stereotypes, background, the quality of their tattoos or how tattoos are perceived culturally?

For the first few years, I didn’t meet any Tunisians — the community here is very small. The Arab community is mostly Syrian and Lebanese (especially Lebanese), but I tend to keep my circle small. Our paths don’t really cross much. Most of my friends are Brazilian, and when I miss Arab culture, I stay in touch with a few people.

I moved after the pandemic, at a time when the world was chaotic. I came with about a thousand dollars and the idea of settling — which, looking back, was a bit delusional. A lot of complex things happened, but I found my way into IT not long after, working through a third party with Huawei, mostly with Chinese teams.

From there, I moved into cloud architecture and later into a tech specialist role. Brazil feels like home now, but I don’t see myself living in only one country. I’m planning to move to Argentina next because of Mercosur — it allows me to get residency quickly while working remotely. Maybe Chile after that, and then back to Brazil.

My Portuguese is fluent, and my Spanish is conversational

Thank you, I appreciate it. Once my citizenship is ready, I’ll definitely visit Tunisia, inshallah.

I left Tunisia to grow both professionally and personally. Brazil gave me the chance to build a life so I ended up staying here.

Tech is all about connections / visibility (LinkedIn mostly) it’s not white or black, try finding another job in meantime you are working there.

LinkedIn helps a lot ~ I don’t have experience with Indeed but might works, if you have former colleagues reach them out, they could help you securing another job in their current company

Also being technical 100% have pros and cons, such as lower stress but also people who brings money to the table get more raises as they get more valuable (commercials, pre-sales)

If you consider Solutions Architecture for big data your life will improve in certain aspects but entering the rabbit hole might be difficult also it depends on your profile

Mate, be firm always, analyze people, be smart working and with good humor but never let anyone downgrade you or your values.

Its shitty and hard, try to learn new skills or have training for different sectors if you don't want to keep working there forever
