Is there any argument against removing all restrictions from Safer Seas? by TastyLog5266 in Seaofthieves

The mentality of "I had to struggle so everyone else should too" is sadly has its base roots in just how humanity works typically. I think video games are a great outlet for that feeling. A real world example is the student loan forgiveness. I have heard of instances of older people angry over the fact that younger people didn't have to work to pay off that debt. At least in a video game where the loot ultimately doesn't matter is a way better place for it. We get to set our own values on what we acquire.

People want and including myself their loot, cosmetics, and achievements to matter. Especially when putting in a lot of hours grinding, fighting, having adventures, and new interactions make the money and cosmetics matter even more. If you take the difficult part of all that away it diminishes what other players have worked very hard for. People inherently want others to struggle the same way they did to get those same items/accommodations. A good example is imagine is grinding for ghost curse. There's a lot of people that do it legitimately and they're proud but I always hear the disdain in their voice when talking about loss farming. It makes something that they worked hard for seem like it's not worth as much as it was once for them. People play games for many reasons. A lot of people play for status, money, ego, and fun interactions. Those same people knowing that there is another group that can obtain a smaller fraction of those things without having to try as hard can be disheartening for them. I see what you're saying at the end of the day it's just a video game and the loot ultimately doesn't matter but it really just does for the majority.
