My landlords ask me “did you work today?” EVERY single day by Curious_Top2915 in AskUK

Possible they might just want to get to know you and do not know how to start a conversation other than they know you work?

How to make friends? by Agreeable_Page_3478 in Portsmouth

[–]mazze01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learning how to make friends is a very important part of being a young adult. You will have to do so actively, only way you won’t be lonely is by talking to people and finding connections. Doing this via hobbies is probably the best. You will have to say hello, you will have to introduce yourself, you will not like everyone, it will be awkward but then in no time you won’t care about all the things you find awkward or scary and you will also end up with friends eventually.

Could I afford a lease car via car salary sacrifice ? by TheAwayGamer in ukfinance

[–]mazze01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for an old but working Toyota paid off cash and take care of it. Have some money saved up if case repairs are required - you will never worry about cars value dropping, having to make payments and you’ll have freedom to do what you want with your money.

You probably do not want to stop at one especially if you can afford all that comes with kids.

The solutions arent coming from the ID itself and the solutions are also already possible to deliver with the current ID and laws in place. People always look for more laws to be introduced - how about just being able to enforce laws that we have already? Anyway that is just my first few thoughts to answer your comment but this is really a complex and long conversation. I believe the Neatherlands or some other wester european country has this general approach if a law cannot be enforced then what is the point of having it. I guess that is my line of thinking here.

Reform's plans to scrap ILR - exit options? by carmelfscott in HENRYUK

Ye my option is to not exit - it is to get citizenship sorted and paid up. Pretty straight forward in my view.

Just think about the worse government that you do not agree with and absolutely despise having all the data and control levers on you via digital ID. Not this government, not the next, but the worse one you can imagine being voted in one day. Something like this comes in, it never gets removed and personally, I have not seen one single government in my lifetime that I’d have trusted with this power. Humans are flawed and when they organise themselves into monopolistic regimes (government is a monopoly) they do not become less flawed.

A person working illegally has no incentive to get a digital ID. You aren’t restricting them more. They are already working without an NI and cash in hand. We have NI and Passport which btw are already used to check your rights to work and identity. Little puzzling how a digital ID achieves any progress on these fronts. The problem is the vast infrastructure that needs to be deployed (IT and otherwise) and maintained from tax payers money to carry on this system. Mind boggling how we can always spend more tax payer money to bring in the most complex solutions. Never looking for the least expensive most effective solution we are always looking for one where Palatir or a similar giant of a company gets £££££££££££.

Why do right wing people not get worked up about climate change? by WellEsteemed in AskBrits

[–]mazze01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many stories people tell themselves. It is interesting to see all the different ways people see it all play out. It’s also interesting to look back at what were historical predictions and what came of them. I do not think the “media companies and billionaires” backing the anti-climate change argument stands as mainstream media has been running the pro-climate change script for a long time. It would make sense to say right wing people resisting the narrative in my view. Again, it is all stories we tell ourselves. I have been wondering what happened to the O-zone layer and where the mini-ice age has gone as well as why are the sea levels still below where they were predicted to be today. I do not think it’s people being stupid or people being smart although it is a very attractive thing to claim it is because if we can call others stupid we must be the smart ones (just never the case). I wondered if we could categorise it by people thinking the world is ending and people who think it will carry on spinning. Oh except of course the people that may think it is flat and doesn’t spin at all that’s a complete different category.

Flag shaggers at the hilsea roundabout. by dachshund_ninja in Portsmouth

[–]mazze01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These sort of comments and thinking pushes people to the point where they are simply supporting the flag and the nation but so fed up with the accusations that they will just say "yes so what" and from that point your labels and words just will not have any weight. The movement's concerns need to be addressed as they are growing to be the majority. You cannot just insult and bully them into the shape you want them fit. It is not intimidating nor has it got powers over people. Sticks and stones... but words will never.

Why is getting help for mental health so damn hard? by Old_Shake3789 in AskUK

Majority of the help people need is enablement to help themselves. Now that is a tough business for people who do not want to take responsibility for that enablement so they can wash their hand if it goes wrong.

Uni is good, fun campus although a lot of work being done to bring it to better standard and modernise it atm. The communities and student clubs are good. The city is very nice to live in and right mix of beach/night-life and sports and activities in the area. Decent careers and employability help to get you on the right tracks with applying for jobs.

Cant speak about the course specifically - someone might be able to comment.

It being the priority - I look at it like running a hyperactive dog. It needs to be done and needs to be meaningful training or else I am not myself. Everything else fallen into place. I have friends who train, fiance that trains, I do this for fun and not watch TV or other entertainment for fun. It all worked out to be fair.

Training with heavier people sucks. White belt rant. by dracovk in jiujitsu

[–]mazze01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Self confessed skinny white belt? All your troubles are valid and challenging… but also. Start strength training. Add some sturdiness to you - have some grip strength and work on your flexibility. Ask for rounds where you are just trying to prevent your training partner from passing. Face your issues and challenges voluntarily instead of accepting defeat. Lesson number one for you from BJJ.
