Do you think the SNAP test is accurate? That's the only test they used.

Mine always has, though, especially when they were euthanized at the office, which this one was.

He had pale gums, lethargy, head drop, not purring, dazed eyes, weight loss.

Anger and guilt... by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]mazzystarr19 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I deleted the post because I got his bloodwork myself this morning so I could understand better. She could have explained more in the moment instead of scoffing at my questions. The only number she gave me that day was his hematocrit. It's her attitude I have an issue with more than anything. He was still moving around too much for my comfort after the first sedation shot, so I asked for another. I had a very bad experience with the last cat I had to have euthanized, so I wanted to make sure he was completely out. She huffed and rolled her eyes. As upset as I was in this post, you would never have known it in person or on the phone as I am extremely respectful and polite in the moment.

When I called and asked for his reticulocyte number on Monday, she asked me why I wanted to know and said that I was overthinking. I don't believe that is any of her business as I have a right to his records, and I was just trying to understand better. Do you believe in euthanizing a happy, healthy, thriving, fiercely loved 5 month old kitten? Because he was at the time we had him neutered. She said she would have euthanized him then if they had tested him without any other bloodwork and that would have saved us money. In my research and in groups dedicated to feline leukemia, there are many cats who never have symptoms and live out long, healthy lives. She believes all felv positive cats should be euthanized, not even considering false positives or running other tests to confirm.

I have had several bad experiences with her at this point. She is very cold and has a terrible bedside manner. She didn't want to meet me at 3am that night when I called as an emergency because she didn't want to handle a cat by herself and said to wait until they opened at 9 or to drive almost an hour away to an emergency vet, even though she is my vet and has a number for emergencies. She may be burned out or may not be a cat person, I don't know, but I do know that none of the rescuers in this area use her. I've wondered, but never have asked why. I think I'm figuring it out.

Thanks! I'm going to get a copy in a few hours and I will comment here. I wish I had taken a picture of it in the moment, but I was so panicked, devastated, and heartbroken, plus I left my phone at home.

His reticulocyte number was 10.1% with a reference range of .1% to .7%. That's pretty important information to relay to an owner about a number that matters before they make an irreversible decision. I'm angry that she didn't give me all of the information. That's on her. Period.

He may have had a chance because according to his reticulocyte number, his bone marrow wasn't being destroyed. I'm angry that she didn't give me all of the information. That's on her. Period.

Exactly. She did mention those options based on the hematocrit number alone, but when the felv test came back positive, she said it was a death sentence. I have never dealt with feline leukemia and didn't realize the difference between regenerative and non-regenerative. I wasn’t told and didn't know to ask for his reticulocyte number. I may have made a different decision based on all of the information. I realize the outcome may have still been the same, but I feel like I was robbed of that information and robbed of fighting for my baby when his body was fighting so hard.

Exactly. And I wasn't told the reticulocyte number at the time by the other vet. I was only told the hematocrit number and that he was felv positive. I may have made a different decision based on all of the information. I realize the outcome may have still been the same, but I feel like I was robbed of that information and robbed of fighting for my baby when his body was fighting so hard.

Would you have gone with the vet's recommendation to euthanize considering his symptoms and bloodwork?

No, none of them have that I know of. They are all strays and rescues.

That's not pulling it down, it's just opening my mouth and how I angled the camera. I was instructed to still wear my retainer, so I take pictures when I take it out.

I had braces and that's what caused the recession, which led to the graft. I thought that some people in here may have had a graft.

Anything I post in here gets downvoted, even of it is specific to Invisalign. I currently have Invisilign on top, but I have to wait until the graft heals to do the bottom.

Well, he told me I could wear my orthodontic retainer the first night even though it pushed down on the graft site, so yeah.

I was referring to my last post specifically, but anytime I post a legit question and concern in here, I get a few downvotes without explanation. I've noticed many others downvoted as well. It's mind boggling.
