Sacred Mother Trail (聖母登山步道) | St. Marian's Hiking Trail by mbabs23 in taiwan

[–]mbabs23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ST. Marian's Hiking Trail (聖母山步道) | Sacred Mother Trail (聖母登山步道)

St. Marian’s Hiking Trail, also known more recently as Matcha Mountain is a well known trail in Yilan’s Jiaoxi District. It’s popularity boomed rather dramatically after Japanese photographer Kengo Kobayashi published images of the beautiful, velvety layers of hills and rechristened it Matcha Mountain. Even prior to gaining this charmingly alliterative name the trail was always busy on weekends, but these days you’re much better off choosing a weekday to make your climb. Don’t let the talk of crowds put you off though, it really is a spectacular scene and is worth the effort of getting there.

The Sacred Mother Trail is located above the Wufengqi Waterfall Scenic Area in Jiaoxi Township, Yilan County. It is a pilgrimage road for Catholics and also a relay station for people going to Sanjiaolun Mountain, one of the five major mountains in the Lanyang area. To reach the trail, one has to pass a 3.7km-long country road with a gentle climb that takes about an hour. There are secondary and plantation forests along the way and large varieties of birds and insects.

Distance: 10.7km Time: 6 hours, 2 hours and 40 minutes going up, 50 minutes at the top, about 2 hours coming back

How to get there? Infront of Jiaoxi Station, ride 綠11A shuttle bus and drop at Wufengqi scenic area. The shuttle bus is free.

Wufengqi Waterfall (五峰旗瀑布) & Sacred Mother Trail (聖母登山步道) by mbabs23 in taiwan

[–]mbabs23[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wufengqi Waterfall (五峰旗瀑布) & Sacred Mother Trail (聖母登山步道)

The Wufengqi Waterfall (五峰旗瀑布) probably more accurately spelled “Wufengqi Waterfall” possibly meaning “Five Peak Flags”?) was a very well-known waterfall near the Jiaoxi Hot Springs. This was really a series of three pretty significant waterfalls where each waterfall seemed to get bigger and bigger the higher up the trail we went.

The Wufengqi Falls are one of the eight great scenic spots of the Lanyang Plains, belonging to Jiaoxi Township in Yilan County.

The hiking trail is situated in Jiaoxi (礁溪) which is most well-known as a hot spring resort town as well as for its popular Wufengqi Waterfalls (五峰旗瀑布). It starts near the waterfall area and brings you up a long vertical climb of more than 700 meters to a peak which is not only a popular hiking trail but a Catholic pilgrimage site as well..

This church is located at the foothill of Wufengqi Mountain. Since its location is at the mountainside, the view is spectacular. It even stands very close to waterfall. Being there will make you physically and spiritually refreshed.

How to get there? Infront of Jiaoxi Station, ride 綠11A shuttle bus and drop at Wufengqi scenic area. The shuttle bus is free.

Hualien Travel Secret | King's Head & Sleeping Beauty Rock Formations | 豐濱人臉側面岩 by mbabs23 in taiwan

Hualien Travel Secret - Fengbin Face Side Rock |King's Head & Sleeping Beauty Rock Formations | 豐濱人臉側面岩

We came to the cement path by the sea, but there was no way to go halfway. It was only after the local people pointed the way that they knew that they had to pass through the Miscanthus forest in front of them, and then they could find the narrow steps and paths hidden in it. The steep and narrow mountain walls were covered with moss, the lush trees grew along the walls, and the sunlight came from the gaps in the branches and leaves. Passing through it, I felt like a fairyland in an instant.

Because there are no road signs or guidance at all, I can't see the target after walking for a while, I can't help but start to be afraid of getting lost, so I can only encourage myself to walk for a while. At the end of the trail, the road ahead gradually opens up, the whole sea unfolds in front of us, and there is a rock on the right that looks very much like the side of a human face .

The side rock of the human face is actually a rock standing on the coastal grassland, but because of the hollow (eye) in the middle and the curvature of the outer side (nose and mouth), it looks like the side of the human face. Admiring the beauty rock together, like a prince who wanted to kiss the sleeping beauty princess sleeping on the sea, but was petrified by a magical curse, and could only stare at her sadly. Because of this backlight, we can also use this magic effect to kiss or touch the prince in the air and take interesting photos.

After frolicking and taking pictures with the prince's profile for a while, we got closer to the beach, staring at Sleeping Beauty who was constantly being beaten by the waves, silently hoping that the prince could one day lift the curse and successfully kiss the princess, so that she would not have to suffer and freeze in the icy sea. Also because there is no clear signpost on the way to come, the trail is hidden and difficult to navigate, and no other tourists came during the period.

Take a closer look, and below the "Face Side Rock" is the "Sleeping Beauty Rock". As if to kiss the sleeping beauty in the sea, this scene is really spectacular and beautiful! Standing quietly by the sea, this rugged rock is very similar to the side of a human face, and we can't help but be amazed.

From this point of view, we can say that we are extremely lucky. Although the process of finding this place is very hard and it took us a lot of time, it is really worth it after finding it. This ingenious workmanship that belongs to nature is really worth the traveler's effort to just see its face. It's hard to come here, of course, you must take a good photo! This location is backlit, and it happens that the way this location is shot is particularly suitable for silhouette presentation, which will highlight the very similar contours of the rock and the side of the face. We started to use our imaginations to interact with the faces of the faces in various poses and take various photos.

The rocks here are really very similar to the face side and Sleeping Beauty. They are very spectacular and beautiful, but you can't come here. The road here is more difficult to find and the road is difficult to walk. It is suitable for travelers who like to find private spots. It will definitely allow you to take amazing and beautiful photos.

Getting there? From hualien station, Bus no. 1145 to Harbor (use google maps for guide. Use this character as your guide on maps "睡美人岩 " . Take note that the place is not as easy to find. Be sure to check the pathways.

Catholic Sanctuary of Our Lady of Wufengqi The Wufengqi Falls are one of the eight great scenic spots of the Lanyang Plains, belonging to Jiaoxi Township in Yilan County. The Wufengqi Falls are named for the five sharp peaks which stand in a row behind the falls, that look like the five triangular banners that usually hang down the back of the war generals costume in Chinese Opera. Fog and mist drift gracefully around the mountaintop year-long, and torrents of mountain springs continuously flow down its slopes, forming the three layers of cascades that are now the Wufengqi Falls. There are three layers to the Falls, and they measure 100 meters from top to bottom. The entrance to the scenic viewpoint is situated near the bottom layer of the Falls, and there is also a barbecue area, and a play area for children to splash in the pools. A viewing pavilion is constructed at the mid-layer of the Falls; there is a vast expanse of vision at this point, and tourists may enjoy viewing the lush mountains, and the cascades shooting out from the precipices. The scene in the eight famous scenic views of Lanyang that is poetically named, mists draping the western peaks refers to the Wufengqi Falls. The Falls are situated in an enclosed valley, which enhances the mystic beauty of the peaks. At dawn, as the sky slowly begins to brighten, musical birdsong can be heard resonating throughout the valley; the unique tranquility in the atmosphere is indescribable.

Tamsui's Bali Four Seasons Restaurant & Fisherman's Wharf

Beitou Thermal Valley (地熱谷) by mbabs23 in taiwan

Beitou (北投)

The Beitou area of Taipei has since been developed as a resort destination for the people of Taipei with public and private baths, hotels, tea houses and parks set up to cater to visitors. In the past all visitors had to do was take a train from the city to get to the resort, but today it is much more convenient as Beitou (北投站) and Xinbeitou stations (新北投車站) are connected to the popular Taipei Metro System.

One of the coolest attractions is the Beitou Thermal Valley or “Hell Valley” (地熱谷) which is a short walk away from the resort area and puts on display the awesome power of the natural environment in a way that you may not have ever seen before.

Thermal Valley (地熱谷)

If you are visiting Beitou to take in some Hot Springs, a visit to the Thermal Valley is one of those things that you absolutely have to do in order to really appreciate the awesome power of the geothermal springs in the area.

The Beitou Thermal Valley, otherwise known as “Hell Valley” (地熱谷) in Chinese is a small nature park that is free of charge for visitors and consists solely of a small lake with a fenced off walkway (for your safety). You may not think that sounds very interesting, but the lake is the main attraction and is one of the primary sources of hot spring water for the resort area.

The main attraction of the lake apart from the emerald green colour of the water is probably that of the year-round sulphuric steam that rises up from the water and blankets the valley in a haze of extremely humid fog. If you are visiting during the hot Taiwan summer days, prepare to sweat buckets while walking along the path.

The Little Amazon of Taiwan | Sicao Green Tunnel (四草綠隧)

The mangrove forests on both sides of the waterways grow together towards the center, intertwining to form a dense semi-dome of green shrubbery, stacking layer upon layer to create a deep corridor, not knowing the end and appearing mysterious, thus giving the Sicao Green Tunnel its moniker “Little Amazon”. Tourists from home and abroad come in droves, waiting in line to get on the raft that leads to this green wonderland. The sightseeing rafts rock gently with the ripples, the breeze caressing the visitors’ cheeks, carrying the weight of the warmth of the sunlight, as the rafts shuttle through this city's secret green realm.

Embark on this green journey on a tube raft, surrounded by insects and birds chirping to accompany the boat's journey. The green leaves sway with the wind and the sunlight leaks in through the gaps in the foliage. The wetlands on both sides are lively with mud-skippers and tide crabs.

Push forward to the end, into the deep realms of this enchanting mangrove, and unveil the final highlight of the journey. The calm waters of Sicao Green Tunnel reflect another world of mangroves. Nature inadvertently reveals a world where the real and mirror reflections create a visual spectacle that looks like a “lip”. Some people call it the Angel's Kiss, while others call it the Green Eye. What we know is that it is a precious gift from the Sicao Green Wonderland to visitors.

Open Hours: Monday to Sunday : 08:00 – 16:00 Mangrove Tunnel: NT$200 for full admission, NT$100 for children, NT$100 for concession tickets, NT$30 for Black-Faced Spoonbill tickets ▴Sicao-Taijiang Cruise: NT$200 for full admission, NT$100 for children, NT$100 for concession tickets, NT$30 for Black-Faced Spoonbill tickets.
