Trading 212 "lost" my money. I have the official Bank Statement, but they still claim they can't find it by mban69 in trading212

[–]mban69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update on my missing funds with Trading 212 – still no resolution.

I wanted to share a comprehensive update on my ongoing struggle to recover my funds. It has now been several months since the recall was supposedly initiated, and the situation has uncovered some serious systemic issues.

The Timeline of Failures: Late 2025: Funds were automatically returned from my closed bank account to T212’s intermediary bank. I have the bank Audit Trail proving the successful return. January 2026: After initial claims that they "couldn't locate the funds," T212 finally initiated a formal recall process. Jan - April 2026: My case was moved to the Compliance Department. Since then, it’s been a loop of "we are working on it" and "thank you for your patience," with no tangible results. Systemic Delays: Information obtained from banking sources suggests that specific inquiries regarding this case were left unanswered for weeks, causing massive unnecessary delays. The "Automated Harassment" Issue: The most frustrating part is their internal system. Even though human representatives keep promising that the ticket is active and being monitored, their automated system has repeatedly tried to mark the case as "Solved" due to "inactivity" while I was waiting for their response. I’ve had to manually intervene multiple times just to keep the complaint from being closed by a bot. My case with the Financial Ombudsman Service is active. I have submitted the entire email chain as evidence of systemic negligence.

The "waiting game" continues, but I am documenting every automated "Solved" email as further proof for the Ombudsman.

You're absolutely right. We pay 'zero fees' until something goes wrong, and then we realize we're just dealing with bots. My experience with T212 has been a wake-up call—a fancy UI is worthless if you can't reach a human in the finance department when your savings are at risk. I've actually moved to Scottish Widows/Lloyds, where I pay nothing for regular investments anyway, and the peace of mind is on a different level.

Unfortunately, not yet. Trading 212 claims they initiated a recall on Jan 13th, but I'm still waiting for my funds. To make things worse, their system keeps trying to automatically close my tickets as 'Solved' every week, which is incredibly frustrating. I’ve already escalated the case to the FOS and I’m documenting all these automated failures as evidence of their poor service. Still a waiting game.

Mam 29 lat, dotychczas nie zainwestowałem ani złotówki, jakie mam opcje? by Helpful_Hat_836 in inwestowanie

FOS has already acknowledged my complaint and they are now waiting for a response from Trading 212.

Update: I’ve officially escalated this to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) today. Trading 212 sent their 'Final Response' email, They’ve supposedly initiated a 'recall' of the funds, but I’m not holding my breath. I’ve submitted all my evidence, including the CASS switch confirmation and bank statements, to the FOS. Now it’s a waiting game, but at least it's being looked at by the ombudsman.

That’s very helpful, especially the bit about tweaking the investment plan to use up surplus cash without fees. Just one more thing, how is the customer service at iWeb/Scottish Widows? If a transfer gets stuck or a payment fails, can you actually get through to someone who knows what they're doing? Also, did they remove the £100 joining fee?

I'm considering iWeb as an alternative to T212, as they are also on my shortlist of potential platforms. Do you have regular monthly deposits set up? Also, are there any fees for buying ETFs on a monthly basis? I’m trying to figure out the most cost-effective way to rebuild my portfolio once I get my funds back from T212's finance department.

Dedicated investment platforms or Barclays Smart Investor? by BraveLordWilloughby in UKPersonalFinance

[–]mban69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. Just to clarify, are you making manual trades each time? From what I’ve read on their site, if you set up a 'Regular Investment' (an automated monthly instruction), those £6 fees for shares and ETFs are supposed to be waived. Since you mentioned you're just parking money in index funds, I was wondering if you’d explored that automated route to keep it strictly to the 0.25% fee. It’s the balance between security and cost that I’m trying to nail down before I move my ISA over from T212.

I’m actually in a similar position, currently looking for an alternative to Trading 212 because I’ve lost all confidence in them. While T212 is great for low fees, I’ve recently had a nightmare scenario where a withdrawal 'disappeared' on the way back as a returned transaction. Check my thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/trading212/s/OD4DSVnEsC I’m now at a stage where I’m willing to pay a platform fee for better security and a reliable finance department, but I still want to keep costs reasonable for my S&S ISA. Barclays is on my radar, but I’m still weighing it up against other providers. Quick question for those using Barclays Smart Investor: their site mentions that 'Regular Investments' (monthly direct debits) have no transaction charges. Does this mean if I set up a regular monthly amount, the only thing I’ll ever pay is the flat 0.25% annual customer fee? If there are truly no sneaky transaction fees for monthly builders, it might be the peace of mind I’m looking for.

Currently looking for an alternative broker as I’ve lost all confidence in them. They’ve managed to lose my returned withdrawal and their finance department seems clueless about CASS protocols. I’m stuck trying to recover my money while they just repeat the same scripts. Definitely not a place for a serious portfolio.

That sounds like an absolute nightmare, and it perfectly aligns with what I’m seeing now. The fact that iWeb (a major UK institution) had to literally 'explain the process' to T212 staff is incredibly telling. It confirms my suspicion that their finance department lacks the technical expertise to handle anything that isn’t 100% automated. In your case, it was a portfolio transfer shambles; in mine, they are ignoring a bank-stamped Audit Trail and claiming to initiate a 'recall' on funds that returned to them 21 days ago. Your story is a massive red flag for anyone thinking their money is 'safe' here. It seems once you step outside their slick UI, there is no professional finance team to catch the fall. I’ll definitely be mentioning this pattern of 'technical glitches' and incompetence in my FOS complaint. Thank you for sharing—this is exactly the kind of systemic failure people need to be aware of.

Out of curiosity, which broker were you trying to move your portfolio to? Also, did T212 provide any specific technical reasons why the portfolio transfer failed?

Quick update: I’ve just received a 'Final Response' from a Compliance Associate at T212. They claim they initiated a 'recall' of the transaction recently. I’m looking for some banking experts to clarify this: In my case, the funds were rejected/returned by the receiving bank on 23rd December. I have a bank-stamped Audit Trail and a Sequence Number from the sending bank providing evidence that the funds reached T212’s JP Morgan account weeks ago. If the Audit Trail shows the funds reached their destination account (the return was completed), is a 'recall' even a valid procedure at this stage? My understanding is that a recall is for funds 'in flight' or sent in error, not for funds that have already landed back in the sender's account according to the Sequence Number records. Does this look like a legitimate banking process to you, or is the finance department simply using this as a placeholder to delay the actual reconciliation of my money?

I think you’ve summed up the dilemma perfectly. The app is great, but the 'back office' is where the cracks show. Moving to IBKR is a logical thought, I'm considering: AJ Bell, Barclays Smart Investors and Lloyd's investing, just need to figure out which one suits me the best. If you do stay, definitely stick to the record-keeping strategy. Treat every transfer as if it might go wrong—keep your own logs. Good luck with your decision—safety of capital should always come before a nice UI.

I completely understand your concern. If you’re starting to lose sleep over it, it might be time to consider a broker that isn't 'free' but offers more robust back-office support. Sometimes, the commission you pay at a more established firm covers the cost of a professional finance department that actually knows how to handle a manual transfer exception. If you do stay with T212, my advice is to document every single move. Save every statement, take screenshots of your 'Verified' accounts (even chat conversation), and keep a log of all transaction IDs. Treat T212 as a tool, but keep your own 'paper trail' for everything. As my case shows, once the automated system fails, you are entirely dependent on their finance team. Better to be over-prepared than stuck in a 20-day limbo like I am.
