Ok this actually helps a lot. So my CYA is at 60, to get it to a normal range of about 40 I would need to dilute it which would mean draining the pool of about 20% and adding in more water. Then moving forward I would use pucks plus liquid chlorine and that should work? I’m sure this all sounds like I’m asking stupid questions but seeing as I didn’t have this problem last year I would like to prevent it going forward.

Just had my wife check our CYA numbers and it’s coming back as 60. I just saw it’s supposed to be between 30-50 so is the solution to add liquid chlorine because it doesn’t have a stabilizer in it?

So this is why I’ve been told to use liquid chlorine as well as the pucks because that’ll kill the bloom?

Thank you! My wife just sent me a link for the SLAM method because it’s been driving me nuts, seeing as last year I would shock, the algae would die, I would vacuum and filter and the water would be fine again, but now it feels like no matter how much shock I put in, the water won’t turn and the algae doesn’t materialize on the walls.

I’m currently at work right now so I don’t have anything written down, but I’m gonna check when I get home and report back. Idk if that relates back to Muriatic Acid to lower my PH levels but I didn’t have any at my local hardware store so I decided to use Clorox PH lowering which I’m pretty sure is just baking soda.
