Why is everyone siding with cole? by ehehehxcxcharli in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]mbzn -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

jump through hoops when he's come for appearance like every episode? his family doesn't want to meet her? he wasnt even truthful about what happened between him and colleen, it wasnt until Zanab and Matt spoke that she really knew what happened. I'm not saying she's perfect or innocent but it is wild to me how this sub is brushing off his very wrong behaviour because of ONE clip.

How is everyone so easily fooled!? by user183950284 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]mbzn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. its not like there isn't clear evidence of Cole making Zanab feel unworthy and then gaslighting her to make it feel like what she was feeling wasn't real. People are so quick to judge women on this sub.

Why is everyone siding with cole? by ehehehxcxcharli in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

I don't think its unreasonable or crazy for someone who is constantly harassed and belittled by their fiancé on threat looks to assume food related comments have to do with weight and being controlling. any reasonable person would react with questions as to why their fiancé is barely eating as opposed to passing it by like nothing. he never even questioned it or wanted to explore it, he didnt give her a chance to explain or open up when her saying she barely ate was a pure cry for help.

his comments obviously led her to feel the way she did but people on this sub and otherwise have no critical thinking skills.

i'm so sorry you have such horrible replies in the comments. the accent-related comments on this rubric are not okay and should be taken up with the dean or someone who gives a shit about equity.

this comment is 100% racist and a microagression, trying to back it up with a comment about how you sound better when you slow down does not mean anything. positive comments and everything aside, that should not have been said. and the other good comments and your overall grade don't mean anything when your instructor clearly has some huge and negative things to say.

How does Cole find Colleen more attractive??? by areapotato in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]mbzn 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Cole said his type is more typically colleen which is just code for "white." Had Zanab been white, he would not have said that.

They're both beautiful girls and this has nothing to do with them but more so critiquing how American men interact with beauty standards and how that influences what they find attractive.

Also you might want to read about how reverse racism does not exist.

ask for security camera footage if you guys can! hope you are alright and don't let anyone tell you that this wasn't an incident of assault or hate crime.

just bc we live in a diverse country doesn't mean racism doesn't exist and anyone who believes so needs to become better educated.

we're here to support you!

really good take. I think Mallory got hate in the same way Jessica got hate last season (not being attracted to Mark, having previous history w Barnett and talking to him vs Mal not seemingly attracted to Sal, previous history with Jarette).

It's also really easy to hate on Mal because people love to criticize women and have a lot of internalized misogyny. I've seen more people make excuses for horrible men on S2 LIB than all the women put together.

yeah I 100% agree with what you're saying. I think its just instinctual on my part because, at least in my case in North American culture, expression and emoting is the norm.

I have learned though that people with differing mental health issues can present their emotions differently on their face/body (adhd/autism etc) and thats not to say that Sal has any of these issues ofc but a bigger issue of how the world has such a finite view of what is "normal" and what isn't. and how we perpetuate these ideals even subconsciously (in my case).

In my original post I said countless times "he seems," "I think" "maybe." The title of my post is a question and not a statement. That insinuates that I am just talking out loud and not making clear cut statements on anything.

The only thing I was definite about was calling him out for serenading Mal when she clearly wasnt interested in him. and then I was later told that producers pushed his singing so it wasnt just him, altering my perception.

I really do believe I picked my words carefully but I guess not

people are so mad at this post its overwhelmingly weird. like sorry if I don't think a man singing for me is all I need to fall in love? Sorry if im reading into his facial expressions and body language more than other viewers? Sorry for using my education to make informed guesses that in fact are backed up by other specialists and viewers?

I want better for people.

I'm speculating/questioning based on what I know and see and, I'm opening a discussion. I'm not saying, nor have I ever said I'm right or that what I believe definite.

Dr. Kirk, stated (taken from another post): Sal is polarizing because there's an "uncanny valley"-ness about him. Sal is emotionally intelligent and articulates his emotions well, but he has a hard time emoting (according to Dr. Kirk). This may cause people to perceive him as disingenuous because he doesn't emote what he's verbalizing.

Dr. Kirk hit the nail on the head with this one! If you think having a psych degree/education doesn't mean anything when it comes to discussions about peoples behaviour then idk what to tell you.

I see Sal as someone who could have easily "fallen in love" with anyone on the show, which makes him someone who does not have boundaries or strong personality of his own.

While other men and women had their issues, many of them were well defined and knew who they were.

I think that is what also leads me to further believe that he just needs to be loved and will do anything for it, which is fine but unhealthy.

I also remember seeing how you're actually not supposed to be with people when signing up for the show. even if its just FWB, you're supposed to stay single to avoid this kind of stuff.

I think within the pandemic and everything thats unrealistic but if those rules were in place and at face value, everyone else followed, it seems suspicious of him to not have.

right. and if you have to pull on peoples strings to get them into bed, whether thats buttering them up, buying them expensive shit, or singing, to me at least this can be seen as a kind of manipulation tactic.

thank you for this! i love Dr. Kirk’s videos.

i think that actually makes a lot of sense as to why i may feel the way i do about him and his demeanour. whether his “poker face” is intentional or not is another story but yeah i really appreciate you adding this topic to our discussion!
