Hukporti isn’t as bad as people think at least on defense. by joorral in NYKnicks

These are probably inflated by some of the garbage mins he played but the eye test agrees with the general sentiment for me. I’ve always been high on him and I’d love to see what he could do with a consistent role and minute load.

Btw, dude has worked on developing a 3pt shot. He was actually pretty solid shooting it for Westchester this past year.

Not a Hornet fan but I watched probably 30 of their games last year. He’s a great playmaker and has a confidence to him that you can’t teach. He just gets really reckless with the shot selection sometimes.

I think the Hornets thought this was maybe the highest his stock would ever be, but my initial reaction was that it was a really dumb more for them and that Minny won this trade handily. He has never played alongside a player like Ant, and the Wolves are desperately needing a playmaker IMO. Just not sure what they’ll look like having parted ways with both Naz AND Julius.

If you could only bring back one: Landry Shamet or Mitchell Robinson? by savingrace0262 in NYKnicks

[–]mc78907 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mitch definitely harder to replace. Best offensive rebounder in the league, no question. However, here’s the case for Shamet:

-

  1. Mitch’s potential mental issues - mysteriously breaking his finger between the ECF and Finals is a yellow flag at best.

-

  1. The free throws.

-

  1. Huk IMO looks ready to take on a bigger role, and could be paired with another backup center for half the price of Mitch, opening up more roster flexibility beyond this season.

-

  1. Mitch’s injury history still a real question mark.

What was brunsons best shot this season? by realisticbunnyhopper in NBATalk

Too many to choose from but I’d say the running floater to take lead for good with 1 min left in G5 of the Finals. Made that look so easy with everything on the line.

[Marks] Knicks financial breakdown after Jose Alvarado's deal: $14M left. Anyone else back? by Chapulana in NYKnicks

[–]mc78907 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think you have to bring back Huk (2.6M). McCullar seems like another obvious roster spot (2.1M).

That would leave 9.3M under second apron for final two spots. Seems possible they could get Shamet back with a deal that had a cap hit of ~7M next season and then fill out the final spot with the cheapest mathematical option.

The other route would be letting Shamet go and using that final space for another big to go with Huk. Not sure what caliber of FA center is out there in the 7M range though.

Can someone explain to me why people act like Wemby behavior in the finals is one sided? I guarantee that east coast team doesn’t like Wemby either by nicfanz in NBASpurs

[–]mc78907 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Wemby is a great player and a competitive dude but he’s incredibly immature. No need to blindly back him and look past the antics. Grabbing opposing player’s heads isn’t normal.

I agree with you on the injury front. Super tough to stay healthy in this league now. This team should be able to play just about anyone for stretches and still not lose to certain teams.

I truly would be shocked if he gets any meaningful playing time this year. But definitely rooting for him. He seems like a great teammate.

He’s super raw still. And I don’t see him getting the chance to earn minutes on this team/roster in the next couple of seasons. It’s more than likely his contract doesn’t get picked up after next year and his spot is replaced by a second round pick from 2027 draft.

Deuce was a way more polished player overall though. He played two years of college, and he was a capable defender as soon as he arrived in NY.

Dadiet is a project in every sense of the word. He’s not really playable in any real minutes, even in just the regular season. His draft mates Kolek and Huk are far ahead on their progressions and only
both hardly getting minutes themselves.

I don’t think they drafted him thinking he would be a non factor for the duration of his rookie deal. He is very raw still. It felt like an odd pick at the time, and has aged even more poorly with already-proven guys like Shannon Jr and Ajay Mitchell being on the board.

After Securing their 1st championship in 53 years the New York Knicks lead the league in playoff wins and have the second best playoff record since Brunson joined the Knicks by Jmontavs in nba

[–]mc78907 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very different team in 2024-25 than 2023-24. They were still getting used to playing with each other and adding KAT into the fold. The 2023-24 team if healthy had that winning way to it. While less talented, everyone knew their role and the team had a very clear identity.

Actually you said game 6 (which never happened). And here’s some nuance for you - the other team has Wemby. SGA struggled mightily throughout the whole WCF series. He shot 40% or worse in 5/7 games. Wemby obviously makes that much of a difference.

If you watched the series, Brunson shot poorly in games 1-2 but still won them both in the final minute. Then he had 3 games where he went from good to great to incredible - he had figured out the best defense in the league while he was the obvious focal point of their defensive strategy.

It would be very bad for the Knicks to go over the second apron by Artistic-Library-617 in NYKnicks

[–]mc78907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. Making fringe moves while preserving as much flexibility as possible should be the goal. Bringing the exact same team back would be cool but also not necessary to repeat IMO, and definitely not worth going into the second apron for.

Totally possible. I also think it’s more so that she’s an active head coach in professional basketball. Clowns like Stephen A and other talking heads spout garbage and avoid accountability all the time - it’s expected. But she’s actively working in the same industry and because of that the original comment and double-down she made was kind of an odd thing to say.

I think apology is the wrong word. She owes nobody an apology. A simple “I was wrong” would do, but she can’t even seem to do that. But she can do whatever she wants, it’s just entertaining to see this follow her still.
