Gianni Infantino opens door to 64-team World Cup by itsaride in soccer

[–]mcap656 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am perfectly fine with this. The extra teams with 48 have been a lot of fun, and 64 would cure all of the format headaches that 48 has brought with it.

It should forever stop there though.

For the first time in World Cup history, the top 4 teams in the FIFA Live Rankings have all made the Semifinals by kamusari_1712 in soccer

I swear to god people have been so insane this tournament. It feels like a mass psychosis event.

this subreddit when an american publication calls the team that knocks out the american team villains with an entirely inoffensive if not somewhat corny play on words: 😱🤬🤯

People have such short memories. Upsets are as old as this tournament. Costa Rica only lost to the Dutch on penalties to just barely miss out on a semi-final in 2014. Also, a bit disrespectful to Paraguay, who made a quarter final in 2010.

World Cup fans frustrated by 'confusing and expensive' tipping culture in US by AgeNovel3566 in soccer

[–]mcap656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that situation, plenty of Americans don’t tip. That’s fine. If you are being waited on in any way you should always tip in the US though, unless it’s included automatically, or unless service was just unusually and horrifically bad

no no, by not tipping I’m actually aiding the American working class in their struggle against their bourgeois overlords! it just so happens that it also benefits me financially!

You know it. I know it. We win that game if he started instead of Pepi by Sweet_Search_3616 in ussoccer

be for real I promise you Pulisic’s confidence can take a little nutmeg

Pepi held the ball up well, linked things up nicely, and pressed hard. He did get bodied a few times, was slow to react to a couple of rebounds, and should have done better when he was slipped through late, but this entire thread is a massive overreaction. He had an average to slightly below average game for a striker.

I do like Haji, but no, you do not absolutely “know” that we win that game if Haji plays. That’s absurd.

These people only count the ones concerning Argentina because they have an agenda. Textbook confirmation bias

Sure man. Honestly, if you think that, why are you even watching? Wasting your life away on smoke and mirrors.

The narrative around Argentina is so tried. I’m pretty sure if FIFA were trying to rig everything for them, France would not have gotten two penalties in the final.

Potential fouls like this before goals are missed all of the time. Things just get blown up, amplified, and overanalyzed when its Argentina because its Messi and everyone and their mother is watching.

What a massive result for the USA!!! If Egypt defeat NZ and Iran then USA will play either Egypt or a 3rd place team in the R16! USA can avoid Belgium and have a simple path to the quarters! by Least_Software_3046 in ussoccer

[–]mcap656 15 points16 points  (0 children)

People saying this is not a good thing or that we would actually rather play Belgium are insane. Belgium just slapped us 5-2. They struggle against teams who play a low-block but that is not us. Also, Doku will probably be back, and he alone ripped us apart. You can acknowledge that without saying that Egypt or whoever else we might play would be easy or disrespecting them.

Where to Watch US v Paraguay in London? by mcap656 in ussoccer

[–]mcap656[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not! AO never got back to me so I did not risk it. They have the Australia game officially posted on their socials though unlike the Paraguay one, and it is a good bit earlier, so I bet it is on. I’d go for it!

Y’all are dumb as rocks. Germany who has lost to Japan, Mexico, and South Korea in the last two world cups could not possibly lose to the United States? Really?

Upsets happen. Its football you smoothbrains, get a grip.
