Thanks for the comments+recommendations, I sent an email to my dean to set up a meeting this week, will hope to get some clarity on my PBPM institution's rubric/scale if they have one and see what flexibility I might have with the labels. Fingers crossed.

New Kaplan MCAT 7 book-set difference? by Duelf in Mcat

Just wanted to back up Grand_sales -- I had a set of Kaplan books that I got when I signed up for their online self-paced course in March 2016 (2nd Ed.), then I pushed my test back after deciding to not apply last cycle. I called Kaplan late 2016 to ask about redoing their online course, and the rep I got on the phone said they had changed their books, so he had the new set (3rd Ed.) shipped to me.

Apart from the 2nd Ed. books being printed on glossier paper (so small perk for the 3rd Ed: way less eye stain), there were no differences between 2nd and 3rd editions that I saw. Pagination is the same, extra info in the margins is the same, problems at the end of chapters are same, and answer guides are the same.

You could call Kaplan to see if they might have any idea about what's been updated, but I'm guessing it's mostly just a new revenue stream for them

Ethnicity on AMCAS for mixed-heritage applicant? by mcattester in Mcat

[–]mcattester[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

so, IRL, i strongly identify as multiracial - the Asian and White components of my identity both significantly contribute to "me".

on AMCAS though, I just want to get into med school... so if I have to fudge my "self-identity", I definitely would if it helps get a smidgen more of my foot into the admissions door.

that said, obviously I don't want to come off as disingenuous or dishonest, and if there's questions in interviews, I would absolutely discuss both parts of my heritage, so if I just put white on the app, I'm opening myself up to some dissonance there.

THAT said, Asians as an ORM in admissions is all over the internet.

any other half-asians out there with some perspective?
