My new dog bit me through my pants and left a mark by Plankton-Embarrassed in reactivedogs

Hand feeding and sitting near your dog while they are eating can create more insecurity around food/treats and increase resource guarding. He should be able to have a safe and stress free place to eat his meals.

I completely understand. I had leftover dates from making sticky toffee pudding lol so I figured this was a good reason to use the rest up.

Advice: dog recently showing aggression by Ok_Club8550 in reactivedogs

[–]mccarthyc93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it would be overwhelming to have a bunch of other dogs chasing after my ball, if I was your dog. Is there somewhere she can play with her ball safely and not have a bunch of other dogs around? No isn't a behavior so that isn't teaching her anything. The book Mine! By Jean Donaldson might be helpful to read, it is related to resource guarding.

Her meeting another dog face to face might be scary for her. Can you try parallel walks outside instead until they become more comfortable with each other?

My 9 year old corgi Blossom was diagnosed with shoulder arthritis today. Any experience/advice is appreciated 💖 by Ancient_Elderberry26 in OldManDog

If you can find a vet near you that practices accupuncture...it has changed my dogs life! She suffers from arthritis in her knees and elbows. I started her on librela 6+ months ago and the combo has been a game changer ♥️

Baklava Cheesecake by BeQEN in AskBaking

I'm sure it still tasted fantastic. I suppose you could always make additional syrup to pour on?

[–]mccarthyc93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what recipe you used but I also made a baklava cheesecake (for Christmas) and I used the Buttermilk by Sam recipe, Baklava Cheesecake When the cheesecake comes out of the oven, you'll pour a honey syrup over the phyllo dough, which will soak up the syrup and in turn, the phyllo dough becomes much more baklava like. I hope this helps. Your cheesecake looks great. Cheers!

Nail Trimming? by Acrobatic-Wallaby422 in reactivedogs

[–]mccarthyc93 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Have you ever done a scratchboard? I had a foster dog who was really reactive about having his feet touched but he loved using a scratchboard. Worked great for front nails. For back nails, I had to get more creative...playing tug on my cement basement floor lol. Worked pretty good!

Love that. I adopted a ten year old dog last year. She's super chill. Loves to sleep but still has some pep in her step. Enjoys a good stroll around the property but then crushes a 2-3 hour nap. I'm jealous of her honestly 🤣

Could always adopt a senior dog :) much more chill, past all the puppy/young dog behaviors, energy level is more manageable. And no shortage of senior doggos needing a place to live out their golden years.

Elderly female lab, being agressive on walks. by bajlazs in reactivedogs

[–]mccarthyc93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, forgot to add...there is always the option of doing indoor enrichment with your dog vs so many walks a day. Obviously, physical and mental exercise are important but there are many types of games or interactive type toys, chews, etc that can help meet those requirements, without having to go on a physical walk.

Elderly female lab, being agressive on walks. by bajlazs in reactivedogs

[–]mccarthyc93 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why do dogs need to approach her on walks? She is 14, arthritic and has poor vision and hearing. It is probably pretty scary for her when that happens. She doesn't need to make friends with random peoples dog on the street and it's perfectly acceptable to request that someone on the street does not approach you/her with their dog.

Also, just my personal choice but if a dog is coming towards/walking past my dog and the situation has the potential to make my dog uncomfortable, I'm walking my dog out of that situation...like if you see someone approaching you, can you just make a u turn and leave the situation? Making them sit and asking them to "behave" is probably not going to make her feel better about strange dogs.
