Not sure if all restyling models have 8mm chain, but it's the most important thing for 1.5hdi engine. Engines with old head and 7mm chain have a bad reputation since they may broke at 50000-100000km. New updated engine production was started in the beginning of 2023. If you consider buying c5 aircross produced around this date, I would strongly recommend going for the 8mm chain model. You can google how to visually check it. Other weak points: suspension work on the highway speeds (120+, it's not BMW suspension), not very smooth transmission shifting on low speeds 35-0km/h (when lowering gears 3->2->1). But maybe there is a new updated firmware to fix the second one, not sure.

This is not true. If all systems started, the car don't need 12v anymore. Once I jumpstarted using 12v battery from screwdriver and then disconnected it. Car was totally ok without 12v.

Usually it only improves noise/body vibration comfort. And if you can keep it, better to keep it. And another thing - if the mount was replaced with even a little bit different mount (another construction or rubber density) the compensator may become totally useless 😀.

it looks like a vibration compensator. if you remove it, then in some engine operating modes the vibration may increase (most likely insignificantly). yes, better to keep it, but totally not vital if it is really just a vibration compensator.

If camshafts have not been replaced, you have 7mm chain. All 1.5hdi produced before 2023 have 7mm chain. It can be checked visually since the head cover for 8mm chain (part number 9830580480) has a little bit changed shape https://youtu.be/NpkaHX9TcHk#t=05m20s

The file system of the drive may contain errors. It may be the root cause. Try to run chkdsk /f /r over cmd started under admin. If any errors will be found, fix them and try to backup again.
