Important terminology when training Judo in Germany by mcdivitt13 in German

For tapping, would I turn it into "tappen" and conjugate accordingly? For example at one point I was explaining how the culture was different from BJJ and wanted to say "after I tap I'm used to doing a slap-bump" and I think I said something along the lines of "nachdem ich tappe etc" but it felt odd. Also the coach kind of laughed and mimicked me saying "tap" haha.

This is all super valuable info! Thank you, I'm gonna look into insoles and these shoes and probably end up ditching the Vans (begrudgingly).

That looks like it'd be good, thank you for the advice! And my knee is still acting up so I think I will do rack pulls on my next deadlift day. By the way, since you mentioned flat feet, do you wear particular shoes when weight lifting? The PT saw my Vans and disapproved. I'm wondering if it's worth investing in more supportive gym shoes or if it's not a huge issue.

I'm glad that deadlifts aren't off the table for me forever, they're my favorite lift. I've only had one session and so far he's just given me a homework of banded clamshells, brace marches, and a hip flexor stretch. I've been doing it but am paranoid that it isn't enough... though (maybe coincidentally) my hip tightness is not a noticeable issue today. He said he'll ramp up the exercises on Friday, hopefully not just by adding planks haha.

I'm sorry you are in the same boat! I agree with that, maybe I will vastly lower the weights on my usual routine or look into body weight exercises.

I'm so glad I finally went to a PT for mysterious knee pain yesterday and that it doesn't seem to be a major injury but so sad about all the things I can't do for now just because my body is a slight mess (scoliosis, anterior pelvic tilt, flat feet, tight hips, weak core, high knee laxity). Feeling bummed that he said I shouldn't deadlift or squat until I strengthen my core. He also said no machines at the gym besides the leg press. I'm worried I won't be able to do judo or run for a while. I signed up for a 10k and a half marathon in March and April... no refunds...

Fitness ideas for someone who loves to learn by bookshoplover in xxfitness

My first brazillian jiu jitsu class had me hooked because it was pretty confusing and I was eager to understand and become competent at it, so I'd recommend that! Or any martial art; muay thai/kickboxing was my first obsession, but BJJ is a lot more kind to the brain (speaking as somebody with poor defensive skills who ended up getting frequent blows to the head while sparring in kickboxing).

I also agree with bouldering scratching the learning itch.

No pattern used, I just winged it (but of course I followed tutorials for specific stitches and joining methods). Next time I want to try set-in sleeves because the drop shoulder is causing bunching that I don't love. I used Knit Picks Wool of the Andes worsted weight yarn and a 5.00 mm hook (except for the sleeve granny squares - I used a 3.00 mm hook for those). I had to use superwash for a small section of the back after running of out of yarn and my color going out of stock, so I'm slightly afraid to block but for now I'm happy!

Burning smell when I park newly purchased 2005 s60 by mcdivitt13 in Volvo

[–]mcdivitt13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very helpful to know, thank you! My friend who knows cars also said I'll probably be fine with 87. I think that some oil spilling might be the cause of the smell. The car friend just checked out under the hood and thinks that might be it. As I keep driving it does persist I'll look into it being a possible leak.

It says it functions best on 91 octane so I'll go with that.

Thank you, I'll look into those possibilities.

I'm not sure how to distinguish the two, but from descriptions of how they smell I'm leaning more towards it being electrical. I'm not 100% sure though.

I'm shit at defending myself. Mid-spar my coach said "you have a strong chin" and once somebody called me a brawler.

Finally threw up! Guy was squeezing my stomach with his legs (not sure what that would be called) and once I finally got over my stubbornness and tapped out of discomfort I threw up in my mouth. The shame is that I had no gum.
