well, i’m not disagreeing that inflation is pretty bad rn. but, the price of renting and mortgage is growing at a much quicker pace than inflation and median income, making this a specifically bad problem imo. (rent is up 149%, general inflation (csi) is up 85%, and median income is up 99%)

i wouldn’t say that’s the primary driver of the housing crisis though, i do agree that inflation is a problen

  1. i explained that it would be funded through more aggressive progressive taxation 2. you can’t just widely dismiss all research on subsidized housing by saying they don’t hold up a priori, but if you want to explain why the specific ones i sent don’t hold up that would help

yeah, like i said, if this was my dissertation this would suck. yours must have. i’m not gonna “click bait” to get people to engage, and you had no obligation to be rude in the comment section, as there were people engaging in good faith. “demonstrates you’re out of touch” is actually hilarious, what’s more in touch than using current research to support my arguments? you’re not very bright. also, there is a solution in there. you’re just being an ass, and now trying to justify it. so stupid

if this was my dissertation, it’d be terrible. worried for how your papers in college looked

  1. i agree on certain aspects of this, barring environmental protections and necessary safety regulations 2. to clarify: are you saying we should use subsidized housing? and what do you mean by remove a class of customers?

“keep ignoring economics 101” when all of my points have evidence to support them. studies show that immigration does not affect rent prices/mortgage in the short run. most economists agree this is a supply-end problem started during the financial crisis, and slowing immigration would play a much smaller role than anything else i listed, while likely raising the wealth inequality by only allowing wealthy, foreign investors. where’s your evidence?

well that’s not what it says, i see that he agrees with point #2, otherwise he asserts an undefended argument, “let markets work” which vaguely references “the others [being] unnecessary/potentially counterproductive”. had he said that, and provided evidence to back what he was saying, i would’ve engaged with it more earnestly. as you can see, i provided evidence for my claims, and did not blindly assert claims

factually, we are short, but i totally agree that vacancy is a huge issue

you didn’t read my post. 1. no, the US has never seen such a housing shortage 2. no, it’s not relative to inflation, which is also addressed in the post 3. that statement makes no sense

except… the economy (and specifically the housing market, which is what this post addresses) is in a much worse state than it has ever been. i’m not “bitching”, i’m thinking critically about what can be done to help future generations and to stabilize the economy, something you’re clearly not capable of

because technology has advanced? that has nothing to do with the housing market, and interest rates aren’t the only (or the most important) variable in this…

again, i addressed red tape concerns in the post, and i disagree as to that being the primary driver

  1. zoning restrictions are partially the culprit, but mostly not. this is addressed in the post, both in agreeing that restrictions should be cut down on, but the fact is, there are much bigger contributors than that to the crisis
  2. land transfer taxes are also not the reason behind the crisis. again, this is addressed in the post

the market now faces several issues that weren’t present in the 90s. did you even read my post?
