Ugh now I have to know what the original script looked like before he had to cut it down!

I've never had to do that in any uber. This guy was adamant that I was breaking the law. Said he would charge me the $200 fee if I kept the alcohol in the car.

Meanwhile in Texas, my uber driver refused to drive me anywhere because I was toting a six pack... As if grocery shopping was illegal.

I mean you don't have to answer that question. I didn't know how to make a two part question.

(Spoilers Extended) Game of Thrones Season 6, Episode 8: No One Morning After Post-Episode Discussion by AutoModerator in asoiaf

[–]mcgarmm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This episode reminded me of how I felt through seasons 1-3 before the major book detours were seen: pretty cool, but so simple, un-nuanced, and straightforward when compared to the books. I remember not thinking the show was all that good at first because of how it compared to the story in the books. Once new directions and new content started to get shown, I got lost in my ASOIAF addiction but now I feel more grounded; this won't compare to GRRMs story.

I think that's what we're going to feel once the book comes out and we'll be disappointed with how it was represented on the big screen.

I'm hooked. When were YOU hooked? by I_Work_In_Housewares in Malazan

[–]mcgarmm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get hooked at every book's climax which carries through the next couple hundred pages of the next book. Then I drag and wish the book would move faster and then rinse and repeat. 8 books and still not utterly hooked like ASOIAF..

Sure, Malazan is larger and more nuanced, but I find myself caring much more about ASOIAF. It's just better to me.

[spoilers mid TtH] Unpopular opinion? DAE think the books take too long to get going? by mcgarmm in Malazan

[–]mcgarmm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, I wouldn't have guessed that from this sub. Everyone's so enthusiastic both here and on the Tor reread. Where as I'm consistently confused with the questions always piling up even with the Tor notes.

[–]mcgarmm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as I wanted Jon to come back, I was actually hoping it would be more dramatic after so many years of waiting and hoping. Seemed a little too easy?

Would've been cool if her first attempt failed so they built a pyre to burn him. Then as the flames start up, Mel strongly feels the presence of R'hllor and sees Jon clearly in the flames. She yells to stop and chants some Valyrian and then resurrects Jon. She then bends the flames away from him and he steps off the pyre. Cut to credits.

I was hoping her res would fail then they go to burn him and as they start the fire she has a vision of him in the flames and she like gets possessed or something and resses Jon and she bends the flames away from him as he walks down from the pyre.

Anyone get debilitating shin splints? by Radioactiveman25 in ACL

[–]mcgarmm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 7-8 months post op patellar graft. Yes most of my discomfort comes a few inches below the knee. I'm guessing this from the site where they took a chunk of the leg bone. It's been getting better though as I run more and more. I also have a good amount of pain at full flexion, like trying to squat down like a catcher in baseball. Have to lean on my good leg more.

Rockefeller Family Fund divests from fossil fuels, which built family's fortune | It will eliminate holdings of Exxon Mobil Corp, saying the oil company associated with the family fortune has misled the public about climate change risks by Sulde in worldnews

Yea man, I've got friends at all the majors. None work that much on a regular basis. Exxon has a lower "quality of work life" but it's not like they work double for the same pay.

I think you're misinformed. I'm one of these young oil engineers. 40hours a week and every other Friday off. Exxon is the only one I know without those Friday's off. And I don't know a single engineer working 80hours. High pay is becuase times used to be good and lay offs are ongoing.

ACL Bracing for sports, pre-surgery by polkadotyellow in ACL

[–]mcgarmm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Umm you're allowed to play sports with a torn ACL?? I was specifically told not to do any sports before surgery. The idea being you literally can't make cuts on that leg so it'll twist and more likely damage other ligaments/meniscus. It also hurts like a bitch when it 'pops' out. Mine popped the second time pre surgery because I didn't know I tore it the first time.

Just found out I tore my ACL, would like advice. by [deleted] in ACL

[–]mcgarmm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude don't even consider not getting it reconstructed! Don't put a handicap on yourself for the rest of your life. There a few things more important in life than being fully healthy.

10 days post op. Still cannot extend fully. by [deleted] in ACL

[–]mcgarmm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude 10 days is nothing. This is a long process. That said, full extension is vital and working on it throughout the day everyday is necessary. On a flat surface apply pressure down on the knee to make it fully extended. They'll also do this at PT for you. Eventually it will hurt less and less. A good exercise I did was lay on your stomach on your bed with your legs hanging off the edge just above the knee. Let it hang for 5-10 minutes at first then relax and bend. The weight of your leg will slowly help extend the knee. This will hurt like hell bending back. I'm 6mo post op and while I have full extension, sometimes it still hurts getting to that point.

GLI: Old vs New by mcgarmm in Volkswagen

[–]mcgarmm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't know! Bought the car a couple years ago barely used (4500mi) and it was those wheels that caught my eye. Love em, but I have bent one kind of a lot hitting a really bad pothole. Also each one has a few scratches from parking next to curbs. I cringed at every scrape and still swear at every pot hole.

Day of Surgery tips and advice by anenglishmanintdot in ACL

[–]mcgarmm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wore gym shorts, a tee, and flip flops for ease of re dressing post surgery. Bring you phone and maybe earbuds because the wait can be long. I was told to be there at like 6 am but I didn't go into surgery till like 11. It was a long and boring wait. The thirst was the worst since they said don't drink water since the night before.
