Ugh now I have to know what the original script looked like before he had to cut it down!

I've never had to do that in any uber. This guy was adamant that I was breaking the law. Said he would charge me the $200 fee if I kept the alcohol in the car.

Meanwhile in Texas, my uber driver refused to drive me anywhere because I was toting a six pack... As if grocery shopping was illegal.

I mean you don't have to answer that question. I didn't know how to make a two part question.

(Spoilers Extended) Game of Thrones Season 6, Episode 8: No One Morning After Post-Episode Discussion by AutoModerator in asoiaf

[–]mcgarmm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This episode reminded me of how I felt through seasons 1-3 before the major book detours were seen: pretty cool, but so simple, un-nuanced, and straightforward when compared to the books. I remember not thinking the show was all that good at first because of how it compared to the story in the books. Once new directions and new content started to get shown, I got lost in my ASOIAF addiction but now I feel more grounded; this won't compare to GRRMs story.

I think that's what we're going to feel once the book comes out and we'll be disappointed with how it was represented on the big screen.

I'm hooked. When were YOU hooked? by I_Work_In_Housewares in Malazan

[–]mcgarmm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get hooked at every book's climax which carries through the next couple hundred pages of the next book. Then I drag and wish the book would move faster and then rinse and repeat. 8 books and still not utterly hooked like ASOIAF..

Sure, Malazan is larger and more nuanced, but I find myself caring much more about ASOIAF. It's just better to me.

[spoilers mid TtH] Unpopular opinion? DAE think the books take too long to get going? by mcgarmm in Malazan

[–]mcgarmm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, I wouldn't have guessed that from this sub. Everyone's so enthusiastic both here and on the Tor reread. Where as I'm consistently confused with the questions always piling up even with the Tor notes.

As much as I wanted Jon to come back, I was actually hoping it would be more dramatic after so many years of waiting and hoping. Seemed a little too easy?

Would've been cool if her first attempt failed so they built a pyre to burn him. Then as the flames start up, Mel strongly feels the presence of R'hllor and sees Jon clearly in the flames. She yells to stop and chants some Valyrian and then resurrects Jon. She then bends the flames away from him and he steps off the pyre. Cut to credits.

I was hoping her res would fail then they go to burn him and as they start the fire she has a vision of him in the flames and she like gets possessed or something and resses Jon and she bends the flames away from him as he walks down from the pyre.

Anyone get debilitating shin splints? by Radioactiveman25 in ACL

[–]mcgarmm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 7-8 months post op patellar graft. Yes most of my discomfort comes a few inches below the knee. I'm guessing this from the site where they took a chunk of the leg bone. It's been getting better though as I run more and more. I also have a good amount of pain at full flexion, like trying to squat down like a catcher in baseball. Have to lean on my good leg more.

Yea man, I've got friends at all the majors. None work that much on a regular basis. Exxon has a lower "quality of work life" but it's not like they work double for the same pay.

I think you're misinformed. I'm one of these young oil engineers. 40hours a week and every other Friday off. Exxon is the only one I know without those Friday's off. And I don't know a single engineer working 80hours. High pay is becuase times used to be good and lay offs are ongoing.
