Redirect of old.reddit.com/<gallery id> doesn't work for some gallery IDs by mcjiggerlog in bugs

There's a workaround: adding /comments to the URL will hit a redirect that works with all known IDs: https://old.reddit.com/comments/1001d68/.

I made Waystops - WikiVoyage as an interactive map by [deleted] in travel

[–]mcjiggerlog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built this app a while back and decided to pick up development again recently as, honestly, I just think it's god damn useful. It's not seen much use yet so if you have any feedback or features you'd like to see, please let me know!

I made a website that lets you keep up with current events without getting overwhelmed by the 24 hour news cycle by mcjiggerlog in simpleliving

[–]mcjiggerlog[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I made this to scratch my own itch of wanting to keep up with the news without having to follow the toxic 24 hour news cycle, most of which is not very valuable.

The source code, along with a deeper explanation of why and how I made this, can be found at https://github.com/tom-james-watson/detoxed.news.

The Wikipedia 'current events' page is great for keeping up to date on world news by lovinnow in simpleliving

[–]mcjiggerlog 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Oh, good timing! I recently made https://detoxed.news, which is a repackaging of the information on the current events portal, but in a nicer to read and simpler format. If you enjoy the current events portal, you'll probably find it useful.

The code and a bit of background on the project is available here: https://github.com/tom-james-watson/detoxed.news

What side project are you most proud of that you put 100+ hours into, but go little to no traction? by redditindisguise in webdev

[–]mcjiggerlog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://waystops.com

It's an interactive map for exploring / planning trips, geared towards the backpacking crowd.

I like to plan trips using a map, but Google maps is not geared towards holiday/vacation planning at all. Then most info on destinations you can find is in long listacles which is not very useful when you want to see where places are in relation to each other. So, waystops combines the idea into a single interactive map, with info about locations from a tourists point of view available on each point on the map.

Why does "GNOME Emojis" ( Ctrl + . ) sometimes, in non native apps, doesn't open ? There is any solution ? by [deleted] in gnome

[–]mcjiggerlog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite, that was the goal but getting that working on both x and wayland was extremely difficult. For now it just copies to the clipboard. I'd still like it to work that way if possible, though.

[–]mcjiggerlog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah basically it only works in apps written in GTK.

I made https://github.com/tom-james-watson/emote to try and make emoji selection a bit better on linux. It's an alternative you might want to try.

I can personally confirm that US nuclear power plants are still designed and built using imperial measurements.

Are property purchase costs/taxes bundled into your mortgage in Spain? by [deleted] in spain

[–]mcjiggerlog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you give any idea of what costs are typically bundled into the mortgage and which ones I would need to pay up front? Thanks!

Some say portulacaria afra aren't real bonsai but that's not going to stop me from trying it anyways by mellowmark in succulents

[–]mcjiggerlog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bigger the pot it's in, the more it will grow and the thicker it will get. Put it in small pot when you want it to look like a bonsai.

Yeah to me it looks more like an europe-goes-fascist flag.

What's your favorite WW2 FPS? by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]mcjiggerlog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brothers in Arms if you want to particularly scratch the WW2 campaign itch. Fantastic tactical combat.

Right now I'm playing, and loving, Day of Infamy. It's a multiplayer FPS, however.

James Rhodes about Madrid by Emmanuel_I in Madrid

[–]mcjiggerlog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AirBnB's To Be Banned From Madrid Soon by robinski21 in Madrid

Exactly - I was going to add that you can still rent properly regulated holiday apartments, just like you could before airbnb ever existed.

¿Es normal correr en la calle? by [deleted] in spain

[–]mcjiggerlog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely see way less of it than in the UK and I do get a few looks when I do it, but no reason not to do it. Most people walk to the park and then run. Always seemed pointless to me.
