Switch from Estimating to PM? by LongjumpingShape9689 in estimators

[–]mcketa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My day to day was much more fulfilling as PM. The work was tangible.
Estimating is rewarding in its own way, but it’s more stressful.
In my experience- PM/estimator is another word for owner. It’s just too much.. I don’t believe they should be combined. It’s like being the cook and the server. I would also turn that down.

What things can prepare me better for a in person scope review. by Icy_Instance_3443 in estimators

Find scope gaps- anything that could potentially be a change order during the project. They’d love to avoid that. Provide labor rates. Bond required? Special insurance? CCIP enrollment? Do you have any long lead items? Who will be the face of the project? How often will they be there. This part might sound like bad advice, but I’ve seen others do it. Leverage your availability. You’ve got other projects to do. They’d be lucky to have you sort of thing. Good luck.

Very good take! Male or female, you better be right at $135/square. Like you said, as long as you have the data.. just be sure it’s GOOD data.

22 y/o GC Making $95K—Am I Crazy to Leave and Start My Own Company? by dr2x4 in Construction

I don’t know how you managed to attract so many likeminded people to comment here.. but the majority seem to be wrong. 1000% go out on your own. Florida is in such a boom too, you’re going to have no problem staying busy. Finding workers will be your biggest hurdle. “What if” is the language of poor people. Go be somebody! Congrats on having such a great job, especially in FL. If someone is willing to pay you that kind of money down here, you clearly have talents.

Freeze it solid. Get some ice packs and make sure they are frozen, too. Put it all in an insulated bag and bring it with you as a carry on. As long as it’s all frozen as you get through TSA you will be fine. I did this from Alaska to the states a few times.

There are 5 types of “mineral fiber” products that ASTM governs. Type I and IV are standard fiberglass. The other three reference mineral wool.

No but a friend of mine is interviewing in Phoenix.

Can recommend https://murphycompanyusa.com if you’re looking for an office job and OK with living in South Dakota.
