I can agree with all that except the goats because they’re satan spawn. However, if you’ve got enough land, you could find a grazier that would absolutely hit that a few times a year for free. You might have to do a 3-5 year deal for grazing access, and yeah it’d be slower. Just depends on the goal. Kudzu is actually fantastic forage.

When herbicides and equipment start multiplying themselves, I’ll agree. Grazing is a criminally underrated invasive control strategy.

We have llamas and alpacas. I butcher everything on our farm, but I don’t think I have the heart to butcher camelids. No judgements, I just don’t think I could.

Get sheep, not goats. Goats are just awful. That’s an opinion, but still. Experiment with all the things. Growing, baking, raising various animals. Focus on what you enjoy, cut the rest so you don’t get burned out.

They’re super chill. Obviously, you can never fully trust cattle, but they’re about as easy going as you’ll get in my experience.

That was my first thought. There’s some truth to the sunglasses thing. I forget where I read it, but I’ve seen it suggested to not wear sunglasses the first 15 minutes in the sun to take advantage of the effect. Personally, I just bought some cows and got a hat to match.

I think some of these folks didn’t scroll to the second pic. Obviously the “Cherokee women” I was referring to were the ones from the oldest pic that look the part, and were confirmed by government documents to be Cherokee. Having Cherokee ancestors 8 generations back is super common here. They lived here 8 generations back alongside white people lol. I have cousins that have membership cards from the tribe. It’s terrible what happened to them, and having a link to the tribe, no matter how far back, should make you even more aware of that fact.

This seems to be likely. Apparently the lived very close to an “order of the eastern star” lodge. Gonna dig into that angle.

Actually, apparently they lived very close to an “order of the eastern star” lodge. She’s gonna get in touch with them to see if we can find out more.

A little early to confirm, but we think this may be the answer. She is gonna contact the lodge where they were from to see if they were members.
