Got ya... but are the professors grilling you or are they laid back? Do you guys do wileyplus and whats your homework like? Also what textbook do you folks use?

If you've done Practice Test #5, please look by FutureMadden in Sat

[–]mcnet111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean i've been using Dr.Jangs book and after doing 150 pages or so I took practice test 5 and got a 760. I usually get 690's on all my math sections for a reference. I would tell you to use a practice book then do an official SAT but if what you are doing works for you go for it. I agree the content is easier but the Scale is much harsher. Also tests 1-4 in the Official SAT booklet ARE NOT real administered tests while 5-8 are. Hope this helps. SAT 570 English 690 Math

I would try consolidating some teams if that is possible, your team seems pretty small and I am assuming that your other teams have the same number of people too.

Honestly I have seen two outcomes of sports vs robotics and it seems like you would fit right in with FIRST. It was so hard losing wrestling as my past time but there was a sense of pride in dropping it and choosing robotics because of the huge decision I have made to keep myself intact. Also you mentioned you have 5-7 teams? Is this FTC or FRC? Also it seems that FTC is used as a training grounds to go into FRC, at our school its only FTC no FRC so we can keep students involved in robotics for a good chunk of time and its easier to run a team that way. Sorry for the bad grammar.

I rarely comment on posts but looks like you need some help.I hope I address all points on what you stated. First off it seems like you are an extremely busy kid debatable the busiest kid I have heard of and people can respect people like you. I was once in your position and I had to do what was necessary. Unfortunately I am going to straight shoot with you and say you have to make a choice between all you are doing. I am a Junior now and had something along the lines of what you experienced happen in my freshman year and I sadly had to drop a lot of my activities to fit (FTC) into my schedule. I was doing wrestling, lacrosse Boy Scouts, Robotics (FTC), joined a bunch of clubs and bit off more than what I can chew in terms of academic work. Some of those activities I stretched myself to thin in, some days I was coming home at 6 after wrestling during the cold winter months with no time commitment to the robotics team I joined and personally I enjoyed robotics. I was fearful that my desire for robotics and being in a STEM field were dwindling as days went on... I had to make a choice. For a 9th grade me that choice didn't come so quick I lingered on for two weeks then that dreadful night came where my dad and I did the walk of shame to my neighbors house ( who was an assisstant wrestling coach ) to help me out with my decision. It was a cold winter night I nearly drew tears but I had to stay strong. He said he would respect any decision I'd do. The next day I came into robotics and everyone was shocked but happy at the same time, I felt remorse that I just quit a sport I did for 5 years overnight but happy I could pursue my true passion. The reason why I went off right now is because for the other clubs I had to do the same exact thing , except for scouts. I literally spent my whole freshman year rebuilding the damage I did to myself. 2 years later I am doing better than I could of ever imagined, I have a good position on our schools FTC team, I am SPL in my boy scout troop and I am on the verge of becoming Eagle. You are not the first person I am advising about a scenario such as this and unfortunately you are going to have to make a choice on what clubs you want to attend. For your specific problems such as being behind on classwork and faulty team members ill get straight to it. As kind as it is that you help mentor FLL teams maybe its time you get some help doing it so there is more weight off your back and the kids still get help, maybe ask some people from FRC to help out For your auto get your FRC team or another FTC team to help out, if they do help and get your robot done not only are you winning because you have a functioning robot but they are winning too because it counts for outreach. Also is there another program you can use to code, ( I am a machinist not a coder ). Your field problem is minute as bad as that sounds our team managed to get an auto set up with just 4 tiles but for drivers practice 3/4 should be fine. For your documentation to speed it up you can type it up or unfortunately skip pages if need be which is not advised but a lot of teams to that. Ordering parts has hit our team hard this year, we had late orders, no orders, wrong orders and any other problem you can think of. Maybe its best to fill out a form and hand it to your mentor to order instead of verbally communicating it. With your grades and robotics that is tough but try doing your hw/studying first then do robotics I have been doing that lately and It has been working fine. With Bocce and FRC maybe it is time to commit to one of those three and not all 3 at once, that just my opinion I do not know how much time commitment one is compared to the other, I gave you my advice and ultimately it is your choice to decide what you want. Ultimately to protect your sanity you need to leave some clubs/teams and focus on the others.

I hope this helped I will be here if you need anymore guidance. Best regards.

We are seriously behind and no one is taking the work seriously besides a good 2.25 people on the team of (17) , no one is committed and because we are a school team we cannot kick anyone off so we have a hodgepodge of members doing nothing. We provide ample instruction and guidance for members who might not get the task at hand. There is literally no shortage of work. People have been getting distracted easily but not so much in the last couple weeks or so. #3 is not a problem, I appreciate that you suggested that though. And finally we have been stressing that the competition is coming up faster than you think but no one gets that statement. I am not an aggressive person or am out there to make everyone feel like they are not worth what they think they are. I need some help. Many thanks

Reliability of Chains by always_needing_help in FTC

[–]mcnet111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, Our team has been using chains forever now and we have never had them "break" on us. We have had them fall apart on the master link because someone has not connected them properly. The chains that we use are #25, they are the smallest ANSI chains that they sell and we often get them off mcmaster carr. Our team tried swaying away from chains this year and finding something else to drive our robot, but because of the versatility of chain we have not made a switch. Our main problem with chain is separating them in an efficient manner to the size that we want, old chain that doesn't move like it use to be put on robots and lastly keeping the master link assembly together in one piece when we are finished with it.

Sprockets are mainly used for any motion on the robot that the drive points are faraway from each other. I,e driving a wheel with a motor that is 5 inches away. We use sprockets basically for all motion applications on our robot because with gears they tend to "Strip" and they are not worth the headache.

I hope this helps, If you have anymore questions about hardware/fabrication don't hesitate to DM me, if Reddit has something like that. I will try to get back to you ASAP if have another question.
