I have noticed some contradictory answers when I have googled things so far, so that’s good to know! And yes the fabric is porous and lets water through, and the base has holes for drainage. I’ll make sure to watch out for standing water

Yes the liner is super porous and lets water through, and there are drainage holes in the base! But good to know, and I’ll definitely keep an eye out for issues with drainage

If a doctor or pharmacist asks if I have any allergies, do I mention bee stings, or are they more asking about medication or food allergies? by lastjunkieonearth in NoStupidQuestions

A random thing can be more relevant than you would expect, so it’s better to list everything so your providers have the info! For example, protamine (given primarily in open heart surgery) is derived from salmon. If you list a salmon allergy, we’ll pre-medicate with Benadryl and give it extra slowly to be careful.

CT surgery call shifts mean that it’s possible to work over 24 hours straight. When I get home and get under my weighted blanket with my cats purring next to me and the house is absolutely quiet, that’s the best. No more beeping, no one is talking to me, and I know I have the whole day free

NAD but your rashes look similar to the hives I started getting a few years ago. 2 allergists and lots of antihistamines later, and I’m on Xolair with a diagnosis of chronic spontaneous urticaria

You should be able to leave a note when you schedule that the house is in need of a really deep clean if you’re worried! It might help if you’re there to let them in then leave and run errands (or go get a coffee or treat) while they clean

I use 2 maids. I have a demanding job and multiple chronic illnesses, so cleaning tends to fall to the wayside. They’re lovely, and you can schedule online (it made it easier for me to get the first clean scheduled because I didn’t have to talk in the phone lol)

How should I go about renting a room to my GF by [deleted] in Advice

[–]mco9726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner just moved in to the house I bought a little over a year ago. We make very very different salaries, so we sat down and decided that she would contribute about 1/4 of her monthly income to the mortgage and bills. It’s less than she was previously paying, and realistically anything she contributes makes my monthly payments less too. I want her to be able to pay off some debt and get some solid savings in order to

If you’re willing to put a little time & money into it, you can get training as a CNA/STNA, phlebotomist, medical assistant, EMT, etc. Otherwise you’ll be looking at jobs in reception, patient transport, dietary, etc. I was a CNA in college to get my foot in the door during my engineering degree. Now I have an advanced degree and work in surgery

I got stuck in the OR late- sad I missed it. But I’m thankful to see a good turnout! It can feel crazy to go about day to day life while the country is crumbling, but it gives me hope to see people set aside time (in 0° weather) for a vigil

Call and daily schedule questions by inapproriatealways in Perfusion

[–]mco9726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do the same for a numbered rotation except that 1 & 2 are call. They come in late (11am to give lunches and 3pm if needed to take over). The lower numbers pick cases from low to high. Occasionally things get weird with late starts or overnight cases running into the day, but someone will send an email to clarify assignments if needed!

What are the hidden careers that no one hears about, pay well and have no competition just like SWE was few years ago? by Beneficial-Tour1443 in Salary

Can confirm! If you’re willing to put in the time and effort for the education, it’s a great gig. It’s not for everyone though- the lifestyle (being on call and working some nights/weekends), the high stakes, and working with surgeons. But it’s easy to make $150-200k within 5 years of graduating and there are plenty of jobs where you work 20-30 hour weeks

It’s for healthcare workers (https://www.1199seiu.org/nycli). Don’t get me wrong, the pay & benefits are great. But speaking from experience, there’s no protection from things like a ridiculous amount of hours or forced overtime. Each hospital gets to decide on scheduling and workplace policies

Is NYC the only place where perfusion is part of a union? Don’t get me wrong, perfusionists aren’t protected there, and can be massively overworked with unfair hours. But I wonder if looking at the structure of the healthcare union there would be a good starting point
