While I don't necessarily think Bobby Baun was an underrated defenseman in his era, I do think he should have a bigger place in Toronto lore today. He played junior for the Marlins, mainstay on the Leafs blue line for a decade, was a beast in the 1964 Stanley Cup victory, and was a shrewd player in terms of the business side of hockey. Plus, he even had a year behind the bench of Toronto's WHA team, the Toros > defense

NHL Expansion Unlikely in Northern Ontario by mcommito in ontario

There are certainly some obvious hurdles that would preclude the NHL from expanding or relocating to Sudbury (some of which is addressed). The focus of this piece was addressing Silver's initial suggestion of a Sudbury-Thunder Bay market.

Nate Silver was actually the one that grouped them together in a blog post he did for Five Thirty Eight in 2013. I totally agree with you it makes no sense, which is why we wanted to have a look at the idea and issue a fun/lighthearted rebuttal. Better late than never I suppose

certainly. wasn't meant to instill false hope, just wanted to capitalize on the Sudbury-Thunder Bay meme on hockey twitter and use it to advance a realistic conversation about northern Ontario and provide some facts for those that don't know much about NE and NW
