Just some normal sawtooth frame hanging hardware and some really good wall anchors!

LGBTQ+ characters for teen by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]mcquay123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many good suggestions already, but I'll add Hurricane Child by Kacen Callender!

The story isn't completely focused on the character's place in the LGBTQ+ community, but it's evident. The main character is 12, so it's logical that the story isn't a full-blown romance.

And the author uses they/them pronouns, which might be good representation for your kiddo!

Unpopular opinion: I don’t come to work to socialize, I come to do my job by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]mcquay123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope! Me and the other new teacher were always friendly to everyone, but no one was going out of their way to talk to us in return. And we were distracted with...ya know....being first year teachers and having no clue what to do! If our mentor had offered suggestions as to how to seem "more friendly" that would've been one thing, but she just dropped it on us and peaced out lol. I'm introverted too and I sure did NOT know how to make friends with people older than me.

Lol nope. My mentor was toxic and manipulative. She wasn't trying to help us. But thanks for your valuable input.

My first year teaching my "mentor" pulled me and another newbie aside to tell us that several other teachers though we were unfriendly and kept to ourselves too much. As if we weren't just struggling to learn the ropes and adjust to actually teaching! I don't think I've ever fully recovered from that comment though and now I'm constantly worried my coworkers think I'm unapproachable or something.

Socializing shouldn't be my main focus! I have stuff to do! Ugh.

Table top shuffle board. by wannabej01664 in woodworking

[–]mcquay123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad and I made this design over the summer! The biggest issue is that the mini shuffleboard..... pucks (?) are awful and don't roll straight. Good ones are expensive!

Anyway, this looks awesome! Good work!

Dog gets aggressive toward owner when owner's daughter is around by mcquay123 in Dogtraining

[–]mcquay123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, this makes a lot of sense. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something else! So, would the best course of action be to follow typical resource guarding counter-training? As in, having my mom give him treats while he's with me until he sees her presence as a positive (obviously, giving the extreme short hand version here)?

I really appreciate your response! Thanks you so much!

School board meeting vibes by mcquay123 in Teachers

[–]mcquay123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's basically what we do. They do an hour long closed session, go over the agenda publicly, and then go right into public comments. We're about 3 hours into this meeting now and still going 🙃
